TRUE NORTH: SCN FOOTBALL VALUE SYSTEM

Moving into the 2023 season, I wanted to freshen up our Northstar Mentality. Ten years ago, our 2013 class developed the Iron Star Code. Each point on the 5-pointed star is recognized to represent one belief that our program will be built on. Each point on the star is equal to the one before it. The values of Leadership, Investment, Selflessness, Accountability, and Preparation make up our North Star. In the center of the completed stars lies the T.E.A.M. For the past ten seasons and every moment in between, we have remained consistent in our steadfast belief in these five values. They are our "True North". These beliefs will be our compass in all we do as a program on and off the field. Much like the Northstar in maritime days, we will use our "True North" as the compass we will follow in the journey to the elite.

For this reason, we will be renaming our Iron Star Code as the St. Charles North "True North" mentality. I am proud of these words and what they mean. I have seen them transform lives, including my own. I hope you can share in our "True North" words and discuss these values with your son or daughter as much as possible. These behaviors win, and belief must exist in our journey to the elite. As we say, championship behaviors preceded championships. We must commit ourselves to these habits until they become our rituals.

I am passionate about these ideologies. I have spent the past ten years working relentlessly to develop this program and the people who are a part of it. While teaching is my job, coaching is my calling. I want to make this program the best high school athletics program in Illinois. I do not say this to toot my own horn; I am sharing this with you to provide insight into what I envision this program can be. The bottom line is that this program is significant to me, as are all of you. I cannot wait to take on the journey of this coming season.

Mission: People over Players: Create an ELITE experience for every player in our program

Vision: Connect the community through the game of football

Purpose: Connect your "Why" to a greater purpose.

Message from Coach Pomazak

What a fantastic week in our program. It is mid-April, and this week felt like it was mid-season with all the football activities. Each day I witnessed a group of young men investing, preparing, and being accountable for their actions. Their selfless nature and leadership transcended the lines of what is expected. Their ability to live our mission, vision, and purpose was at a whole new level. This week we discussed the ideas of delayed and instant gratification and its influence on us and society. In an Instagram world where people create content and gain the immediate gratification of likes and reposts, the game of football allows us to exercise our ability to develop our grit and willpower. We spend hours with each other each day, working to become a better version of ourselves. The sole purpose is to achieve the ultimate moment one day. Without guarantees of victories or success, our kids keep showing up and living the True North Mentality. That is why we call it the Process. Our program is not about "likes" and going viral; it is about forging the bonds of brotherhood and learning to love and care for each other more deeply. It is about understanding that success is not linear and cannot happen overnight. For every great success, hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of work, leading up to that triumph. Our kids understand this program, which is why we continue to forge the path of an elite football program in Illinois.

DONATIONS UPDATE

We have raised 250 dollars towards our Coach Bus rental for the U of I event. The estimated rental cost is about 1500 dollars. If we do not get that number, we will take a yellow bus. If you can help pledge money to the cause, don't hesitate to get in touch with Coach Pomazak at robert.pomazak@d303.org

SCN FOOTBALL NEEDS YOUR HELP

The Stars Football program has been invited to the University of Illinois for their annual cream of the crop 7 on 7 . It is a great honor to be invited to this elite event. However, with this invite comes a 2-hour bus ride to Champaign. Anyone who has ridden in a yellow bus understands that they are built for transport, not comfort. To keep our athletes comfortable and best support their physical needs, we are looking for a volunteer or multiple volunteers willing to sponsor a coach bus rental for our kids for that day. If you are interested in learning more, please email robert.pomazak@d303.org.

Thank you

APRIL SPORTS PERFORMANCE FOCUS

April will be a big month for our spring sports performance program. Upon our return to the weight room, we will be working off % intensities based on our three rep maxes that were taken before our vacation. Focusing on quality movements under high % intensities shows great improvement in both strengths and overall mobility. We will continue to develop our linear speed with our Wednesday fly ten sessions. Curved running, speed agility, and quickness training will hit high gear during our polar bear session every Thursday morning. April will be an exciting time for our athletes as we will begin to see college recruiters come into the building to evaluate our players. The SCN Football sports performance program is second to none and each player who invests their time to prepare for the season with their teammates will see there return on investment come gameday in the fall.

ELITE LEADERS

We try to stay connected all year in the St. Charles North Football program. When our winter sports athletes compete for the Stars, those not in season work in the weight room and gyms. It is an excellent opportunity to build relationships away from the football field. Each week culminates with an Elite Leader being named. The best part of the award is that the player from the week prior is the one who names the recipient. It is an extraordinary moment when our players highlight each other. I am excited to see who gets the opportunity to be called an "Elite Leader" this off-season.

ELITE LEADER MICHAEL HYDE

Aedan Hayes is our Elite Leader of the Week. Aedan has fallen in love with the process, and each day his efforts are leading him one step closer to his ultimate goals. It is an honor and privilege to coach and work alongside Aedan.

College Visitation Rules

The NCAA D1 FBS contact period has started. That means colleges can schedule times to visit with the 2024 recruits. In the coming weeks, we will have an excellent opportunity to get our players in front of some of the best and brightest colleges in the country. Our protocol for college visits is as follows.

1. Coach Pomazak emails administration scheduled visits for the coming day, including which students have been asked to attend by visiting college coach.

2. Students will receive a pass before the scheduled visit.

3. Students will only have 15 minutes to visit. This will help limit the loss of instructional time.

4. If students have any assessments during the visit, they are not permitted to come.

5. Teachers have the right to ask students not to leave class.

6. Students should refrain from missing the same class twice a row.
