Teacher Spotlight - Debbie Smith GT

Mrs. Smith implemented Makerspaces in her GT classroom. When asked about her experience, here is what she had to say:

Maker Space is just a term! It's creativity at it's finest and called by many names! Genius Hour, Brain Drain, Tinkering, Makerology, etc. It's technology! It's building! It's recycling! It's so many things! What looks like play to a lot of people, is actually a reflection of much deeper learning. Over the years, I have watched students engage in collaboration and teamwork while working on a project that they are fully immersed in. They solve what may seem like insurmountable problems. I have watched students work independently. They plan, they succeed, they fail! They try again! Students involved in the creative process are not afraid of failure. Why? They love it! Whatever terminology you use, I feel that it's learning at its' finest! They own it! --- Debbie Smith, GT

You can't use up creativity! The more you use it, the more you have! ---- Maya Angelou
