Pre-K
Language Arts: Our Pre-K scholars will be learning about giants! Before children can comprehend the concept of a giant, they need to understand the differences between big and little. So, we will begin by comparing all kinds of big and little things from animals to toys to words.
Math: Our Children will be learning about perspective and measuring. They will practice ordering sets of similar items by size. We start to learn about patterns.
Science: Our Pre-K scholars will have a brief look at animal habitats and food. We will talk about giant and tiny animals.
Social Studies: Our character education focus will be on developing the concepts of courage and humor. We will continue to learn how to use strategies to calm down and meet our commitments.

Empezaremos a aprender patrones.
Kindergarten
Dear fellow parents and students,
We are very excited to meet with our students in face to face. We will continue to teach face to face and virtually at the same time. This school year students are going to learn many things. At the same time we will have fun.
In the first unit in science, students will be learning about patterns of movement for two weeks. Students will observe and describe the location of an object in relation to another such as above, below, behind, in front of, and beside. They will also observe and describe the ways that objects can move such as in a straight line, zigzag, up and down, back and forth, round and round, and fast and slow.
In the second unit (Natural resources), students will observe, describe, and sort rocks by size, shape, color, and texture. They will also observe and describe physical properties of natural sources of water, including color and clarity.
In the third unit, students will still be looking at natural resources. They will give examples of ways rocks, soil, and water are useful. We use natural resources in everyday life and students will be able to connect with the topic.
In math, students will be counting and looking at numbers 0-10. Composing and decomposing provides a strong foundation for mental addition and subtraction. Counting up to 20 and comparing numbers build on sequencing and numerical order. Children compose and decompose numbers through 5 to build a strong foundation in number facts. Children count up to 20 and compare numerals and sets using the terms more, less, fewer, and same number. They also learn to count how many in all, which is the most basic form of addition. Students will also compose and decompose numbers up to 10 with objects and pictures.
In language arts, in kinder students should be able to identify letter names and sounds, rhyming words, word families, blending and segmenting words. The students will learn about fiction (characters, settings, problem and solutions. They will also be looking at text evidence and trauma. It is important for students to comprehend that every text or story has a beginning, middle and end.
In Social Studies, for the next three weeks students will be learning how we earn money, what jobs people do, and how do we use technology to meet our needs. It is important for students to learn how we people make or earn money with the types of jobs that we have, because it will be useful in the long run. They will eventually grow up and face these situations in the real world.
We really appreciate your dedication and hard work with your children. Please continue to help your children with their homework. Also connect them I-ready and I-station. Remember the success of your children is pending on you.

Queridos padres y estudiantes,

English Language Arts & Reading Department
Reading:
Pre-K students will enjoy daily read- alouds and focused vocabulary instruction to develop oral language skills.
Kinder students will continue to develop reading skills by learning new sight words and blending letters and sounds to decode words. Listening comprehension is supported through daily read alouds and focused discussions about text and using new vocabulary.
Grades 1st-4th are working hard and preparing to take their 1st District Common Assessment on November 18th. Please make sure your child receives adequate rest the night before and arrives at school on time that morning. Talk to your child about taking their time and using the reading and writing strategies they have learned in class.
All students are learning to provide evidence from text to support their understanding.
To prepare your child for success, please have them log onto Istation regularly and work on their backpack assignments. Contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the Istation work assigned. Read daily with your child and ask them questions about what they read. Also, ask your child about what stories they read at school and what they learned from them.
Writing:
PreK- Students are learning that their words can be represented by print. Encourage your child to “write” and talk about their writing with you.
K-4th grade students continue to grow as young authors as they apply their knowledge and understanding of grammar and the writing process to publish various forms of writing genres. You can support your child’s writing development by first talking with them about a topic and then having them write about it to practice sentence structure.
~~~~~~~~~~
Lectura:
- Los estudiantes de prekínder disfrutarán de lecturas en voz alta diarias e instrucción de vocabulario enfocada para desarrollar las habilidades del lenguaje oral.
- Los estudiantes de kínder continuarán desarrollando sus habilidades de lectura al aprender nuevas palabras frecuentes y combinar letras y sonidos para decodificar palabras. Comprensión auditiva se apoya a través de lecturas diarias en voz alta y discusiones enfocadas sobre el texto y el uso de vocabulario nuevo.
- Los grados 1º a 4º están trabajando arduamente y se están preparando para tomar su primera evaluación común del distrito el 18 de noviembre. Asegúrese de que su hijo descanse lo suficiente la noche anterior y llegar a la escuela a tiempo esa mañana. Hable con su hijo sobre tomarse su tiempo y usar las estrategias de lectura y escritura que ha aprendido en clase.
Escritura:
PreK: los estudiantes están aprendiendo que sus palabras se pueden representar con letras impresas. Anime a su hijo a "escribir" y hablar con usted sobre su escritura. Los estudiantes de kínder a cuarto grado continúan creciendo como autores jóvenes a medida que aplican su conocimiento y comprensión de la gramática y el proceso de escritura para publicar varias formas de géneros de escritura. Puede apoyar el desarrollo de la escritura de su hijo hablando primero con él sobre un tema y luego haciendo que escriba sobre él para practicar la estructura de la oración.
