A reflection on the first semester

As I think back about the first semester, the following three things come to mind.

#1. Our implementation of PBIS has provided guidelines and expectations for our students and staff. PBIS has been a major factor in our school year getting off to a good start and allowing students and staff to maintain a positive learning environment.

#2. Our staff have gone above and beyond for our students and each other. They meet with students before and after school. They meet with each other to plan great things for our students. They take risks and give students a voice in what they are learning. Our staff is just plain amazing.

#3. Our students are truly amazing. They are respectful. They are hard-working. They want to learn. They are thoughtful. They are the reason I come to school every day.

Thanks for your continued support of Merton Schools. I look forward to a great second semester.

Help fill someone’s bowl this winter by bringing in cans of soup for the Intermediate Souperbowl!! Cans will be collected each day in the cafeteria during the week (2/26-2/30) leading up to the championship game between the Patriots and the Seahawks. With each donation, students can vote for the team they think will win by adding it to the display under the team helmet. Collected items will then be distributed to families in need in our area. We are all looking forward to this fun, community project! Questions can be directed to the Student Senate Advisors, Mrs. Niemczyk and Miss Kohnert

Schedule reminders

Today, Thursday, January 22nd, our students have a noon release.

Tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd, our students and staff have the day off.

First semester grades will be posted in Skyward on Friday, January 30th.

New schedules for 7th and 8th graders

Monday, January 26th begins the second semester. With that comes schedule changes for all of our 7th and 8th grade students. If a student had Science first semester they will have Social Studies second semester. The opposite is also true. The second possible change is during our 5th hour art/band/choir/study hall time. All students are required to take one fine arts class each semester. If a student was in band or choir first semester, they will continue in those classes. All other students should pick an art class for the second semester. We do our best to make sure that students get their first choice of an art class, but that isn't always the case. Students were emailed a google form to complete and they were reminded this week of this responsibility. If you have any questions about this, don't hesitate to contact me.
