No Parking Zone
Please remember that the curb in front of cafeteria and classrooms is a loading zone. Drivers must stay with their vehicle at all times. If you want to walk on to campus to meet your child, please park in a different area. Unattended cars parked in the loading zone are causing excessive traffic back ups. Today was especially bad, as cars were still parked along the curb fifteen minutes after dismissal. Let's all work together to follow the traffic guidelines and ease congestion at drop off and pick up.
As we have changed the walking pattern to eliminate pedestrians crossing the driveway entrance and exit, it has eased traffic through our drop off lane in front of the intermediate playground. Although you cannot park your can in the drop off lane, it is another good location to pick up or drop off your child.
School Site Council
School Site Council (SSC) is a group of staff members and community members who provide consultation during the review and development of the Comprehensive School Safety Plan and Single Plan for Student Achievement. We have an opening on this year's School Site Council and invite you to be a part of this committee. SSC members serve a two-year term and attend three meetings per year. If you are interested in participating in Alta Vista's School Site Council, please email Cathy Bailey (baileyc@unionsd.org) or notify the office by the end of the week if you are interested in joining us. Thank you.

C.A.G.E Donations! Create And Give Enrichment to our Children!
Alta Vista Elementary runs on donation and needs your support! It costs $300 per student to provide all of the enrichment activities and expenses for the 2023-24 school year. By donating over $300 per student, it will cut down on the amount of overall fundraising that the HSC will have to do for the 2023-24 school year. We are asking each family to donate $300 per student to help us fund programs for the 2023-2024 school year.
The CAGE Drive ends on September 8th!

Be Seen And Heard Parent Night - Sept. 12th 6:00-7:00pm
After continued positive feedback from our students, parents, and staff, Union Elementary School District will be hosting our sixth year of Be Seen and Heard© assemblies for K-8 students at all school sites beginning Wednesday, September 20, 2023. These assemblies will reinforce and build upon topics that were covered in last year’s Be Seen and Heard© assemblies. They are presented in the interest of student safety and will address the dangers of child sexual abuse, the differences between a safe and unsafe touch and a safe and unsafe secret, the importance of voice, and identifying trusted adults. Please note that for this year, the assemblies will be virtual and streamed into classrooms via the classroom teacher.
The content of each assembly is differentiated to be age appropriate by grade level. School support staff will be on hand to support students during the assemblies. Each presentation will last approximately 30 minutes. Information about each assembly, by grade level, can be found in the table below. As a parent/guardian, you have the right to determine whether your child attends this assembly. Please see below for opt-out information.
We invite you to attend a virtual parent information night to learn more about the Be Seen and Heard© program. The presenter, Deanna Hynes, will lead parents through an overview of the program and will be available to answer questions.
