Knowledge by Cody Carlson

#1 "In my joy I thrust my hand into the live embers, but quickly drew it out again with a cry of pain." (Shelley 85)

This quote is one of the creatures first experiences and reaction to a situation. This is a learning point in his life to not to touch flames. This is knowledge and he will now learn what to do and what not to do from other situations. You can connect this to an experience most of us have had. When you accidentally put your hand on a burning hot stove. You have experienced the same reaction that the creature has had and you have learned a lesson.

#2 "My days were spent in close attention, that I might more speedily master the language." (Shelley 91)

This quote explains that the creature understand the importance of a language. Just understanding this is very intelligent itself. Also when he watches his companions, he can learn many words that he may of never of heard of. According to, it is important to watch someone speak to learn the language. One example is skype.


#6 "Fortunately the books were written in the language, the elements of which I had acquired at the cottage; they consisted of Paradise Lost, a volume of Plutarch's Lives, and the Sorrows of Werter." (Shelley 108)

This quote shows knowledge because he has the ability to read many more novels. These novels are complex and don't explain why they are written. The creature needs to figure that out on his own. Also with the ability to read complex novels, the creature can now read Victor's Journal.
