Welcome
Events............
There's some interesting events on the horizon. The Ingleton Folk Weekend is on again this year which is always worth checking out as they attract some great talent into the pubs and clubs around and about. Just out of the area is the Folkalpoint festival up in the North East in November. And closer to home there's the Gargrave Autoharp festival which should be completely different (we're hoping to have demonstrations and examples in the shop). We'll post details and links on the website when we have them. ALSO - Is anyone interested in a regular Country & Western evening? We've had one or two people in the shop asking about C&W and whilst jazz and folk are well catered for in the area there isn't really a focal point for it. So if you would like to see some C&W in Settle get in touch and we'll see what we can arrange.
Concerts.."....
There are several concerts coming up that it'll be worth checking out. The first of these is at the Victoria Hall Settle on 1st of June. It's a band called The Presence (featuring Echo Town) and playing bass is Gary Blackburn who works in the shop on Tuesdays. Their set is a mix of fifties and sixties songs and it promises to be a fun evening. We're also aiming to put on a couple of concerts ourselves over the summer. We're hoping to see the return of Clare Douglas and Chris Wadington who are planning to bring their own style of Folk Guitar and Violin back to Settle. We're also chatting to Dead Mans Uke about a small intimate concert of virtuoso ukulele music sometime in August. Keep an eye on the website for full details.
Guitar Sessions
Our monthly guitar sessions have taken on a new format lately. We've been meeting for a couple of years now and have played and jammed a wide range of songs and tunes. We are going to concentrate on fewer songs and develop then to a state when we can comfortably perform them. We'll practice the ten or so songs that we've chosen for several months and then have a party where we can play them to friends and family. Among the songs that we are playing this time are: Labelled with Love (Squeeze), Jessica (Allman Bros. Band) Take it Easy, (Eagles) and Twist and Shout (Beatles). If you are interested in getting involved then give us a call.
