Asian carp were Imported from Southeast Asia to Southern United States

Asian carp are a problem because their diet overlaps with the diet of the native fish in the Mississippi and Illinois river.
Asian carp got into the U.S because they were were imported to help aquaculture and wastewater treatment facilities keep retention ponds clean.

Flooding allowed these fish to escape into the Mississippi River system and migrate into the Missouri and Illinois rivers.
