The Husky Howl
DECEMBER 7-DECEMBER 11, 2020; Semester I; Week 14
A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
This weekly newsletter is always written with YOU in mind. We hope the information is helpful to maintaining clear communication between home and school. Of course, if you have questions, concerns, or comments about the information, do not hesitate calling the Hughes front office at 817-245-0600 to talk to our wonderful receptions. They are eager to help.
This week you will find info about Spirit Days that will begin next week. Encourage your child(ren) to participate. High participation makes the days more fun for everyone. Also, the BISD calendar was added this week so you can be fully aware of attendance expectations. The calendar adjustments made due to COVID-19 this summer are still in place but we wanted you to please note the final day of the semester changed from a half day to a full day on December 18. Information concerning our seasonal Toy Drive for Cook Children's is available this week. Finally, we hope you will please take note of the picture schedule for all virtual students. It will be important to sign up for the "one minute slot" to have your child present and ready to take their picture for the yearbook as well as their official ID.
As a reminder, there will be no comprehensive exams for the semester; however, end of unit assessments will be given in most classes during the next two weeks. Please remind your child(ren) that everyday, every assignment matters. Teachers will have limited time to complete the final grades as the semester closes so waiting until the last minute to turn in work will benefit no one. Remind them to do themselves a favor and get their work turned in - current and past.
Well, we know everyone is counting down to something - days until school's out, Christmas, Hanukkah, finish shopping - the list goes on. We want to encourage you to embrace every day that comes. Our students, your families, our families, new and old traditions and everything in between has the potential to inspire us all to do better and be better. We know that the next two weeks will be hurried or maybe hairy but it is time with others that matter to us all. Enjoy and be thankful for the season that is in full swing.
Until next time,
Your HMS Administrative Team
ATTENTION HMS PARENTS!

PICTURE DAY FOR ON-CAMPUS RETAKES AND MAKE-UPS
PICTURE DAY FOR ALL VIRTUAL STUDENTS IS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16
VIRTUAL STUDENTS will have their pictures made between 10:30am and 2:00pm. ALL VIRTUAL STUDENTS will be scheduled in one-minute increments. It is very important to schedule a time and be present on time for the picture.

Parents, you will need to drop off your virtual child at the "Band Drop Door" at the east end of the building. Then, you will pull up to the regular parent "Pick Up/Drop Off Door" to pick up your child. If we can maintain the schedule, the process should be quick and easy.
If your virtual student is in athletics and is on campus for SPORTS pictures,
he/she can have yearbook pictures done at the same time so an appointment is unnecessary.
Below, you can select your desired appointment time.
