Talent Day is Coming Soon!

Talent Day in Music Class (aka- Show and tell for music!) is coming the week of May 16-20. Students will have the opportunity to share their special talents in an intimate classroom setting. Parents are invited to attend as a guest.

Students are not required to perform in Talent Day, but they are required to participate in some capacity. Some students may wish to be a "roadie" and set up equipment for the performers, some may want to be an emcee and introduce the performers, some may simply wish to demonstrate good audience procedures.

Students should practice their special talent in preparation for this special time in music class. We are looking forward to an exciting week of talent!

Extra copies of the Talent Day sign up for performers can be found on the music website, as well as outside the music classroom. Forms are due to Mrs. Amsler by May 9. http://hobart.schoolwires.com/Page/6962

Who is Mr. Everybody?

Mr. Everybody's Musical Apartment is a silly story that we use to help us learn how to name the notes on the music staff (those five lines and four spaces). We use the initials of the characters to learn the names on the notes. We will eventually use this story to help us name notes on a test. The week before a test, students will get their own set of flashcards to take home and study as homework. Book one covers notes C, D, E, and F. Our final test will be the week of MAY 9-13.

You can learn more about Mr. Everybody's Musical Apartment by visiting the JM Music Website: http://hobart.schoolwires.com/Page/3190

Music in Our Schools

During the month of March, we talked about why and how music is important in our lives. We also studied instrument families and got to try out several band and orchestra instruments at our "Instrument Zoo". A special thanks to all the parents that came in and helped out with this big event! We made a "joyful noise"!

April- Jazz Appreciation Month

In the month of April, we brainstormed about what jazz is and learned about several Jazz musicians: Thelonius Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, and John Coltrane. We moved, listened, and even read stories about jazz.
