Professional Development Day - No School for Students: Tuesday, November 8
Tomorrow is a mid-term election day. During mid-term and general elections the Anoka-Hennepin School District has schools that are polling locations for our community. With the volume of people that enter our schools, the district makes this day a non-school day for students and a professional development day for staff.
Culver's Share Night - Tuesday, November 8 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
As another way to bring money into Johnsville Elementary, Culver's in Blaine will share a percentage of their profits with Johnsville. If you don't have dinner plans, stop in to Culver's from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, November 8.

Veteran's Day: Friday, November 11
To honor all veterans and specifically the ones connected to our Johnsville and Sunrise communities, Johnsville hosts a light breakfast of scones, yogurt parfaits, and coffee. As a school, we gather at the flagpole outside and recognize our veterans and say the Pledge of Allegiance. We also ask veterans to visit our classrooms to share a bit about their experiences while they served or are serving our country within the armed forces. We thank our veterans for serving and sacrificing so that we can enjoy the freedoms our country has to offer.
Thanksgiving Break: November 23-25
There is no school November 23-25. We hope that all of you have an opportunity to stop and pause for a few hours (maybe even days) to appreciate family, friends, food, etc. I know I'm grateful that I am a part of this Johnsville community. Beyond your support and advocacy for your own child(ren), you share your time, energy and resources to make our school great. Thank you for making our events special, for supporting families in need, and for volunteering within our schools to support our students. You are appreciated!
End of Trimester 1: December 1
The last day of the first trimester is Thursday, December 1st. In relation to the end of the trimester, Friday, December 2, and Monday, December 5, there is no school for students. Friday is a staff planning day to complete report cards, and Monday is a staff development day, respectively.
A Message From Mr. Johnson
Thank You!
K-2 Costume Parade
It was great to see you back in our school for our traditional K-2 Costume Parade. While the day brings on a high energy level of excitement (and sugar intake), it also brings upon us a lot fun. Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your daily routine to be a part of our event.
Slime Day 2022
As a result of our Boosterthon success, Mr. Riley and Mr. Johnson received a new look courtesy of all our students. A huge thank you to our volunteers for facilitating the fundraiser, and then creating this fun event for our students by making the slime and getting it ready for dumping. Both Mr. Riley and Mr. Johnson were washing out slime, glitter, and feathers well beyond the sliming! Side note: we raised over $20,000 for our school. Much of that will be allocated for a new playground structure.

Enrichment Programs
Seeking volunteers who are interested in leading any of the following programs. Online training is available. Please contact Jenni Kulseth if you are interested. (Training is required)
K-Skillbuilders
The program was developed to help kindergarten students develop lifelong literacy and math skills. The volunteer program is comprised of a variety of activities that volunteers can practice with students one-on-one in the classroom while reinforcing the skills that classroom teachers have already introduced to kindergarteners through lesson plans, including: Reading aloud, tracing the alphabet, sorting and finding letters, listening to sounds, and counting and building number recognition. This program occurs during the school day.
Challenge Reading
Volunteers provide children with additional opportunities to foster a love of reading outside of the classroom by introducing various genres of literature, extending students' writing connections, and promoting higher level thinking skills. Like a book club! This occurs outside of school hours, usually after school.
Math PLUS
The purpose of the Math PLUS is to provide additional, on-going mathematical experiences for students in grade K-5. Students participate in math activities that reinforce problem solving, logic and reasoning, and communicating mathematical findings. This makes math learning fun! This occurs outside of school hours, usually after school.
Remember to fill out the Volunteer Application Forms for the 2022-23 school year, and to be notified when opportunities become available throughout the school year: Volunteer at Johnsville Elementary

Minnesota Fall Weather
We've had a beautiful fall with beautiful colors, warmer than normal temperatures, a lot of raking, and opportunities to be outside.
Here at Johnsville we believe in the importance of play and fresh air, even when it's cold out. Students will go outside as long as the temp is above 0 and the windchill is above -10. Therefore, we need students to come prepared for all the elements. Please make sure your student comes to school each day with a winter jacket, hat, mittens/gloves, snow pants and boots.
We have a very limited amount of spare coats/snow pants/boots at school for students who many forget. If you need assistance in obtaining winter gear for your student, please consider this local resource. Supplies may be limited, so it's best to call ahead to see if supplies are available in your desired sizes:
