FUN FACT FRIDAY!
"Halloween" by John Carpenter
In 1978 the "slasher" film Halloween was created by film-maker, John Carpenter. The very talented Carpenter gained recognition by many after this film. He wrote, directed, and composed for the thriller with an amazing budget of $300,000, but would have a sales total of $47 million.
The theme music of consisted of very eerie repetitive notes in a very complex 5/4 time signature. Even more impressive was that Carpenter created the entire score in three days. He played keyboard very well, probably gaining a solid background in music since his father was a the chair of the music department at Western Kentucky University. Interestingly though, Carpenter did not read music so he had to seek some guidance from Dan Wyman, who was music professor at San José State University.
Carpenter also added popular songs like "Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult which was a brilliant addition. The star of the show was a young, relatively unknown star named, Jamie Lee Curtis. It wasn't until later on that Carpenter found out who Jaime Lee was related to. She was none other than the daughter of Janet Leigh, the star of Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "Psycho." She would go on to be known as "The Scream Queen." The success for this movie was so great, there have been 8 movies in total relating back to the original Halloween movie story plot.
