The Eye of the Tiger

Weekly update for 5/17/21

Big picture

Hi, Tigers and Tiger Families! This is our final Orange Week of the 20-21 school year! We can't believe it. We'll begin our week with our A-day classes for the last time this year. Students will continue to be engaged in their classes, and are reminded to finish strong!

Field Day(s)

This week our Exploratory Classes will be hosting Field Day! All Covid mitigation efforts and safety standards will be in effect.

Who will attend: All Exploratory Students (Classes with Ms. Fowler, Mrs. Ortiz, Ms. Gould, Mr. Smart, Ms. Sprow, Mrs. Woolfolk, Mrs. Pierson, Ms. Muhammad, Ms. Olson, Mrs. Haynes, Mrs. Slominski, Ms. Christopher, Mr. Haynes)

When: Thursday, May 20th and Friday, May 21st during their scheduled exploratory classes

Where: On the field behind the W-GMS

Instrument Return and Laptop Loaners

Students who used school issued instruments this year must return them by May 21st to Mrs. Ortiz. Hybrid students should bring their instruments with them to school and bring them to the band room by the 21st. Distance students should bring their instruments to the school and drop them off in the front office.

Students who accidentally took a school loaner laptop home must return the laptops by May 20. Laptop logins will be referenced, and if a student does not return the loaner borrowed, they will be required to pay for the device.

Student Issued Laptops: To Return or Not to Return

Student Issued Laptops can be kept over the summer; however, it is important to remember that the laptop is the student's responsibility. If a student would like to turn in their laptop over the summer (to prevent laptops from being lost, stolen, or broken), the school will collect them and reissue them for the 21-22 school year. The choice is yours! Students who will NOT return to the division next year MUST turn in laptops. All laptops for hybrid students can be turned in to Mrs. Brown in room 101b; virtual students dropping off laptops should leave the laptop and charging cord with the student's name and grade in the front office for Mrs. Brown.

Beginner Instrument Testing

Any student who has registered for band for the first time should attend our beginner instrument testing event. The testing will be held in the cafeteria on Monday, May 24th for students with last names A-L from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Students with last names M-Z should attend between 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please contact band director, Ms. Reba Ortiz at if you have questions or concerns.

8th Grade Photo Collage

While this year has been different than any other before we want to celebrate our 8th graders and all of their accomplishments these past three years. In order to do that we NEED YOUR HELP!

Please send in 1-2 pictures of your 8th grader from this past year to their TSA/Homeroom teacher. It can be of them doing anything that they enjoy. It does NOT have to be school related, just school appropriate. We need these pictures by May 19th.

Thanks for helping us celebrate our fantastic 8th graders!

MAP Testing 5/19

Students will take their fourth (and final if they didn't miss any!) MAP test this Wednesday, 5/19. This will be the Language Usage test. Please be reminded that the MAP assessments are Measures of Academic Progress, and the data will be imperative to teachers in their planning for students. It is critical to student learning that the data is valid and reliable, so all students should take their time and put forth their best efforts. Students will get their session names and passwords from their proctors, and they should reach out directly to the person proctoring their class with questions and any issues logging into the test.
