MACS Micro-School

September 27- October 1, 2021

Quotes Worth Sharing This Week!

We are entering Week 6 together. MACS Micro-School families! Together we are growing our kids! Together we are finding the joy in their learning. Together we can help them develop as artists, creators, designers, thinkers, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators! The time to start is now, not later.

Powerful quotes to remind ourselves:

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up" ~ Pablo Picaso

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." ~ Maya Angelou

2) Family Engagement- Every student will have the Egg Protection Program assignment in their Seesaw on Tuesday. Please help your child complete this assignment as a family. This assignment will require them to fully engage in scientific testing as they make a hypothesis (guess) about what can best protect their egg when dropped. Through this activity, they will be thinkers, designers, problem solvers, scientists and innovators. With your help they will have a blast learning through this hands-on experiment. Don't forget to have them share in Seesaw with videos/pictures.

Progress Reports for Micro-School

I will be sending home progress reports on every student. These will not be based on numerical grades, instead they will be learning standard and skill-based reports specific to your child's current progress.

I will hand them out on Friday, Oct. 1 after our place-based learning activity here at the central office.

Seesaw Student Assignments & Family Support

Please support your child's virtual learning by making sure they are working on Seesaw everyday. Even on the days I Google Meet with them, they will still have Seesaw assignments to complete.
  • School attendance for each day is based on 3 factors- they must be engaging in one of these forms of Micro-School: (1) independent Seesaw assignments, (2) working on Google Meet with Ms. Willard, or (3) attending a place- based lesson somewhere in the community with Ms. Willard
Big picture

Place-Based Learning- Math and Art in Baking- Cupcake Creations!

Date: Friday, October 1- please note your child's time below.

Location: Mount Airy City Schools Community Central Office

Today we will kick off a math and art lesson through cooking. Our group times will vary since we will need to be indoors using the kitchen and our classroom for this activity. Please see the groups and times below. Students will be exposed to fractions, measurement, following directions, reading a recipe, artistic design using food, and hands-on learning through mixing and baking. To keep everyone completely safe we will be baking our own cupcakes and decorating our own to eat as a sweet treat. We have aprons to keep everyone as clean as possible. Masks must be worn at all times during the indoor event. We will take our cupcakes outside to eat afterwards.
