Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
Kudos to our Sabres for grinding out our first five day week of the year! It seems to take some time to get our legs under us after summer break but hopefully everyone has been reconditioned with back to school well underway. Don’t look now, but there are only two weeks left of September and our next milestone, Thanksgiving is also around the corner.
This past week, we held our Clubs Day with a plethora and variety of clubs where students can find their passion and be teenagers. Not to worry, if your child missed the day, we will be running meeting times of the various clubs in our morning announcements and it is never too late to join.
From this past weekend, another amazing week for Sabre athletics. Our five volleyball teams all medaled, winning three gold, one silver, and one bronze! Our football team remained undefeated with a 45 - 0 win over Ross Shep. Also, our cheerleading, golf, and cross country teams are rolling. Again, it is not about winning but our ‘return to near normal’ conditions has been refreshing and rejuvenating for all of our student athletes.
This week leads us to our annual Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 23. As a school community, we understand how important Terry Fox is to the fabric of the country. This Friday is an opportunity for our Sabre community to do our part in keeping his legacy alive. It has become a tradition at our school since the 1980’s and when we look at the words that we stand by at SAL, including respect, responsibility, empathy, compassion, and courage, Terry Fox checked all these boxes through his words, but, more importantly, his action. We also understand that this Friday can be tough on our kids as cancer affects many and our students know of a loved one that has gone through this journey. Hence, as we try to do at SAL, day in and and out, we will look out for one another and support each other during these emotional times. Students can bring in their donations to their block 2 class, and the classes with the most donations will be winning prizes.
This week also brings us to the School Council Meeting on Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Library. We are excited to be in person with coffee and treats from our amazing Culinary Arts students. Please see the agenda below.
Shifting gears, We have a school and division goal of life preparation for life after high school. Please see below a few of our Youth Empowering Workshops offered to students to help them in preparation. For students to join, please see the posters around the school, and scan the QR code to register.
