Words From Our President...
Last week, my activism placed me in a pickle. I don't like to eat pickles at all, but I do like cucumbers---aren't they related to pickles? Instead of cucumbers, I received pickles with lots of demands on my time. This pickle (yech--tastes like pickles) caused me to be less responsive electronically and sleep less. As one who already gets up at 3:30 AM, some would say, I once again placed myself in a pickle!
Activism! What did I do to keep active? I moderated three candidate forums--one for HSEA and two for the League of Women Voters. I did some campaigning. As a government teacher, it is important to keep my political gene activated. It certainly is better than pickles!
I met eight times this month with teachers and/or administrators. Discussions did ensue at times about situations that resembled pickles!
Activism! We held a follow-up session to bargaining to continue the ECA discussion. We have worked to organize the ECA into categories to avoid the pickle of playing seek and find.
Activism! I met with seven different student groups either before or after school or during fall break plus an additional five practices. No pickles there!
Activism! I attended two school board meetings. One of them lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes which once again put me in a pickle the next day!
Activism! I watched some sporting events live in addition to on television. No pickles there.
Activism can be in your future! I'll be sending out some volunteer opportunities. Get ready to eat or avoid those pickles!

Hello members!
Get out there and exercise your right to vote!!! Let your voice be heard in this election!!
Early voting has begun in Indiana. Check out www.hamiltoncountry.in.gov for polling times and locations. If you Iive outside Hamilton Country, check your county's website for polling information. Vote early to avoid the lines. Remember if you vote a straight party ticket, you will NOT be able to vote for our 3 HSE school board positions. Please consider voting for each office separately, so you can make it to the end of the ballot where you'll find the 3 school board races (Delaware, Fall Creek and Wayne townships). You can vote for a total of 3 candidates for school board, 1 from each township. To see the HSEA's recommendations for the school board positions, please visit our website www.hseateachers.org and click on the "political action" link or follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
