Our Mission
Updates from the Principal
I want to personally thank our families for the continued positive support we have received this year. It is an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our ability to help our students be successful is dependent upon our relationships and support with families. As we are in a virtual setting, our partnership is more important than ever. Please continue to communicate any needs your student may have as we navigate these new challenges.
Additionally, we have a new support opportunity for interested families. The University of Missouri is providing online tutoring for students. Please see the flyer attached regarding details.
We are excited to recognize our student citizen award winners from the 2019-2020 school year. These six students are recognized for being outstanding representatives of the student body who demonstrate the highest of expectations. The award winners are pictured below. We regret we didn't have the opportunity to recognize them last year during our traditional Jefferson Reception due to COVID-19.

Cyclone Virtual Expectations
Please find at the link below, our Cyclone Virtual Expectations. Please review the expectations with your child. If all students apply these expectations, we will have safe and successful virtual learning experiences for all students.

Resources and Supplemental Needs Survey
In order to best support our families, we created the survey at the link provided to identify any areas of special needs in which support may be necessary. Please complete the survey below so that we can assist any families in accessing resources.
YouTube Access
This week some of the YouTube videos used in classes did not play correctly. For the videos to play, students will need to login to YouTube with their email account. The login to YouTube is the student’s email address and password-for example 27xyz03@stu.cpsk12.org and the students email password.
If your student is in grades k-2 the username is your login name @stu.cpsk12.org for example if your login name is 32abc01 then the username is 32abc01@stu.cpsk12.org and the password cps12345 where 12345 is the student lunch number.
Here is a link to the video of how to log in:
Log in to YouTube on an iPad –https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/18715
Log in to YouTube on a Laptop – https://www.cpsk12.org/Page/18716
If you have any questions or trouble logging in, please call the student helpdesk at 214-3334 or stop by any middle school 12:30-2:30 Monday -Friday.
Virtual Learning
Students and teachers seem to be settling into the online school format, and most are making good progress. Please remember we are here for you during school hours every day to answer questions. The student help desk is open every day from 7:30 am – 4:00pm and can be reached at 573-214-3334 to answer your questions as well. You can also email jkiley@cpsk12.org or aboeckman@cpsk12.org. We also have some additional things we wanted to point out.
- Every student should go to Self Service and download the ZOOM app from Self Service. We believe this is part of the issue with students not being able to get into classes. You MUST have the Zoom APP downloaded to your iPad for links to work. Most of the time you will not be required to login with a username and password, but if your teacher does require you to login, please use your Google Drive (school) email address and password.
- PLEASE NOTE: WHEN LOGGING IN YOU MUST CLICK THE SMALL GOOGLE ICON NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE MESSAGE AND THEN LOGIN. DO NOT USE THE BOX THAT COMES UP – THAT WILL NOT WORK.
- CPS is making progress working on the filter for students. We are in the testing phase and hope to roll this out by the end of the month. Please keep in mind that your students do not have a filter on their iPad for social media right now. Once this filter is replaced, they may tell you their device is not working any longer. It should filter out social media and gaming sites, but not the apps that they need for schoolwork. Students should only be using their school issued device for schoolwork.
- Please be aware that your child’s Zoom account is open and they can connect with other people in and out of the district. Students have been making Zoom groups for others to join and some of these may be inappropriate. Please check your student’s device under the Zoom app if you have a concern.
- Students seem to be having issues with blank documents uploading from Notability to Schoology. Please be sure you have set your Notability backup and that your file format is set to PDF + Recording. Here is a video that will walk you through the backup process if you haven’t done it.

This year, more than ever, we want to help our students adjust to this ever-changing world. We know that stress plays a big part in affecting how our kids learn. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us if you would like to talk about your student. We can schedule Zoom meetings to talk with kids at any time with a simple email request. Reach out!

JMS ATHLETICS
JMS Basketball Cheerleading – MARK YOUR CALENDARS! - We will be holding Cheer Clinics/Try-Outs during the week of October 19th for current 7th and 8th graders interested in cheering for the Basketball Season. Clinics will be held on October 19, 20, and 21 from 4 to 5:30 PM at JMS. Try-Outs will be held on October 22 from 4 to 5 PM, also at JMS. Students must have a current physical, passing grades, and a signed Permission Slip to try out. For more information, contact Coach Cassidy Urie at curie@cpsk12.org or Coach Jordyn Walters at jowalters@cpsk12.org .
Parents, there will be transportation provided for athletes to and from practices during basketball season. If you would like your student to be involved in basketball or cheerleading during the winter season, but can’t provide transportation to or from practice; we would just need to have your name and address to provide to STA so they can determine bus routes.
