From the Desk of Dr. Laurie Heinz
Dear District 15 Community,
It has been an absolute joy to welcome our staff and students back to school last week! There was no short supply of smiles (and maybe a few tears -- kids and parents alike), as students entered school to meet new friends, learn new routines and continue their educational journey in D15.
I was able to visit almost every school during the opening few days of the year and the energy, enthusiasm and overall preparedness was visible. Please enjoy this photo gallery of my school visits during the opening week of school.
Our District's theme for this year is #MoreThanEver because:
More Than Ever...we are excited to see our students return to learn in person;
More Than Ever...we are focused on reconnecting our students with their classmates, their teachers and staff;
More Than Ever...we are working to re-engage our students in the classroom with exciting new curricular resources, instructional practices and with a combination of new and veteran staff guiding their learning; and
The months ahead may have some bumps, but, More Than Ever, we will work through the ups and downs together.
Thank you to our students and parents for their continued adaptability and trust in our District.
Thank you to our teachers and PAs for all their hard work preparing their classrooms and lessons! Your classrooms look amazing and are so welcoming!
Thanks to our administrators for leading their schools and ensuring your buildings were prepared for students and your staff to start the year off right. I was blown away by how welcoming each of our buildings looked and felt.
Thank you to our custodial and maintenance staff not only for ensuring our construction projects were wrapped up and ready for the school year to begin, but also for making sure our schools were ready for students.
Thank you to everyone who assisted us in opening our doors safely! From our clerical and office staff, to our nurses, and all the departments within the District, we couldn’t have done it without you!
As a reminder, our Return to Learn, Reconnect, and Re-Engage Plan includes our Safe 6 mitigations as well as our additional plans and procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff as we continue to move through this pandemic.
Again, I cannot thank you all enough for your support and I am looking forward to another great school year!

Laurie Heinz, Ed.D.
