Substitute - May 5 & May 6

I will be away from school Thursday, May 5 - Friday, May 6. Please send a note or call the office for all transportation changes. I will not be able to check my email until I return Sunday. If you have an issue that comes up that needs to immediately be addressed, please contact the office.

Please encourage your child to be on their best behavior!

Assessments

We will begin our end of year reading assessments this Wednesday. Please encourage your child to work hard and do their best work.

I will send a report home when I complete all student assessments.

No Homework

We will have no homework this week or next week. I'm giving students a break because we've entered the testing season and this can sometimes be overwhelming for students. They are all working so hard in class, please allow them the opportunity to play and relax outside of school.

Bike and Walk to School

Wednesday is National Walk & Bike to School Day! This is a day to promote fun, healthier habits, safety & builds on our already wonderful Cougar Community! Staff and Concord Police will meet at the Boys & Girls Club at 7:20AM and walk to School. The path of our route starts at the Boys & Girls Club and follows straight down Spring Street (which is about .6 of a mile). Parents have permission to park at the Boys & Girls Club to join in. If you are normally a car rider or live close by, we hope you will! It should be fun!

Spring Pictures

Spring Pictures are in and will be sent home tomorrow! The students all look ADORABLE!

Choose which sheet you wish to purchase (if any) & submit payment in the envelope enclosed. Please return payment or portraits to School by Monday, May 16. If you do not buy the photos, you must return them to school.

Volunteer Breakfast

If you've volunteered at our school this year, we'd like to invite you to the CWES Volunteer Breakfast. It will be held tomorrow morning (Tuesday, May 3) from 7:30-8:30 in the cafeteria. Thanks for all that you do to support our classroom and school!

Exciting News for Our School

Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School has been deemed a North Carolina STEM School of Distinction at the Model Level! This is the State’s highest rating for STEM Schools!

To receive this honor, the programs completed an arduous application process outlining its STEM teaching and learning practices. Eighteen schools applied for the designation; only eight were selected for site visits. During the site visits, judges toured classrooms, reviewed student work and participated in panel discussions of Students, Parents and Business Partners. Judges walked away impressed with the rigor and talent within our program.

Our program will be recognized on June 2nd in Raleigh. We're all very excited to have received such a distinction and quite proud of our students and teachers!

Headphones

Many of our class headphones have broken or disappeared. Please consider purchasing a pair for your child to use through the end of the school year. Thank you!
