Blended learning starts September 21
Schools are excited to welcome students back to school for blended learning!
Students in Group 1 will attend school in person on Mondays and Wednesdays, and students in Group 2 will attend school in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you’re uncertain which group your student is in, please contact the school. Students who have chosen distance learning will continue with that model.
Back to school reminders
This school year will be different for families, students and staff. Here are some reminders for entering the blended learning model this week:
Make sure the school office has the most up-to-date contact information for students and families.
Complete a daily health screening before coming to school.
Remember to wear your mask. Schools will provide three masks for every student and employee.
Bring your fully-charged Chromebook or device with you to school every day (grades 1-12 only).
Bring your own water bottle. You won’t be able to use the drinking fountain unless you have a water bottle.
Dress for outdoor weather. Some students may have class or eat lunch outside if weather permits.
Moving between learning models
Students are permitted to move from blended to distance learning at any time. Students who request to move from distance to blended learning can do so during "natural breaks" in the academic calendar. To account for potential staffing changes, these breaks will occur at the end of each quarter. Schools will send additional information in the coming weeks about the process and deadlines for moving from distance to blended learning.
Fogging systems will disinfect classrooms
In an effort to disinfect all classrooms daily, District maintenance staff will use a series of safe and effective electrostatic fogging systems. These commercial-grade disinfecting machines spray an extra-fine fog that contains “Peroxy-Klean” which is 6% hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is 99.99% effective in killing the COVID-19 virus on contact and is on the EPA’s approved list of products for use against the virus. Peroxy-Klean evaporates in 10 minutes or less. The byproduct from Peroxy-Klean is oxygen and water, and it leaves no residue. Every classroom in the District will be treated by this fogging procedure every night. Meals for students
Meals for blended learning students
Free breakfast and lunch will be available to all students on the days that they are at school. Students will also be offered a bag with breakfast and lunch to take home for their at-home learning day(s). Students will not need to pay or enter a PIN number to receive these meals.
Free meals will also be available for students attending Tier 1 childcare.
Meals for distance learning students
Free meals will be available for all distance learning students every Friday, starting September 25, for curbside pickup from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the following sites:
Chippewa Middle School (5000 Hodgson Road, North Oaks)
Irondale High School (2425 Long Lake Rd, New Brighton)
Each bag will contain five breakfasts and five lunches. Meals will be FREE to all students. Families and students will not need to provide a name or PIN number to pick up the meals. If school is not in session on a certain Friday, meal pick-up will occur the previous day at the same time listed above.
The Minnesota Department of Education has announced an extension of the USDA’s “Free Meals for Kids” program until December 31, 2020, or until funds run out. This program provides free meals for all students regardless of eligibility.
Learning model tracker
Minnesota school districts are asked to determine their learning model based on local health data and the number of positive cases in their county over a period of two weeks. The state will provide updated numbers every week. School districts are permitted to take a more restrictive approach at any time, but cannot take a less restrictive approach. Distance learning is always an option families can choose.
Our latest number: 16.57
Our current learning model: Blended learning begins for all schools September 21.
