4th Grade News
December 4th, 2015
It's beginning to look a lot like...
We can't believe we are only one week away from the break! Next week is sure to be fun-filled, but we still will be learning!
Please see the Sign Up Genius link for items needed for the party next Friday: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f044eaeac29a20-201520161.
To celebrate and reflect on our Chris Van Allsburg author study, we will be viewing "The Polar Express" on Friday before the party. We will be comparing the movie to the book and discussing the similarities and differences and why those differences may be there based on the audience and purpose. If you would prefer your child not view this film, please email your child's teacher, so other activities can be planned.
Sincerely,
4th Grade Teachers

Math - We are analyzing word problems involving comparing using multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Students are learning to use a strip diagram to show relationships and solve problems. We also will be working with mixed numbers as we continue learning about fractions. For more information about the module, view the parent letter. Continue studying multiplication facts and logging into Stride Academy for individualized support. Study ideas here.
Science - We continue our Solar House Problem-Based Learning that will take us to our winter break. Students will learn about passive solar energy, reinforce concepts of conductors and insulators, and the Engineering Design Process as they research, design, build, test and redesign a model Solar House. Students will reflect on the design and create a Tackk using tackk.com. Students' projects will be selected to apply for Techno Expo.
