Attendance
As we progress through the school year, please continue to remember the importance of school attendance and arriving to school on time. In addition, children who arrive late to school miss the important groundwork that is laid by teachers at the beginning of the day.
The instruction and learning that occur on a daily basis in the classroom is our central mission. Parents who make regular school attendance and punctuality a high priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, which is an important lesson for a successful life.
As we work to increase Collins Intermediate’s daily attendance – please continue to support your child’s educational process by limiting the amount of school missed except for illness. Collins Intermediate daily goal is 98.5%.
First Grading Period
Hours of Missed Instruction (Early Checkout) as of September 26th = 999 Hours
Your Assistance Needed
We humbly request that students not be dropped off until 8 AM.
We understand this is a difficult request due to our later start time and parents needing to get to work on time. The number of students continue to grow and on Friday there were over 60 students dropped off on the front porch prior to 8 AM. This is a safety issue for our students, as we do not have the staff available to supervise children prior to 8 AM. We truly appreciate your understanding and help.Collins Intermediate Policy for Classroom Snacks/Birthday Treats
Due to safety issues related to allergies and dietary restrictions for many of our Collins students as well as increasing district and USDA guidelines, we do not allow students to bring snacks/birthday treats for distribution to classmates and friends either in the classroom or during the lunch period.
Deadline for prizes is Tuesday, October 1,2019
Nell Kendall, Nurse
Please remember, if your child needs medication at school, please do not send that medication with your student. School policy states the parents must drop off medications and fill out a permission form. THIS INCLUDES COUGH DROPS.
Information from Mrs. McCure, Counselor
Coats for Kids
Monday, September 30 thru Friday, October 11 Collins will be participating in Coats for Kids with the Conroe ISD Police. Please bring new or gently used (clean) coats, hoodies, and sweaters to the donation bin located outside of the counselor’s office. Thank you to Cobra Council for helping Conroe ISD out!
Guidance Lessons
The guidance lesson for September was about listing 3 trusted adults in your life that you can talk to when you are upset or worried about someone. We also defined character by talking about good character traits and bad character traits, how character is built over time, and to take note of your behaviors. Students listed one good character trait and one bad with a goal of working on turning the bad character trait into a good character trait. Students also looked at responsibility, our October character trait, and came up with one thing they are wanting to work on for the month. Ask your student to see the piece of paper in their folder.
October’s lesson is on responsibility and circling back around to respect and making healthy choices.
Red Ribbon Week - October 21-25
MONDAY - “Red OUT” – Wear RED to show you are “red’y” to be healthy by making healthy choices.
TUESDAY – 80’s Day – a Throwback to a HEALTHIER you – Wear your 80’s outfit
WEDNESDAY – “I use my Head to Make Healthy Choices” – wear a hat to school
THURSDAY – “Healthy Choices Lead to a Bright Future” – Wear a college shirt
FRIDAY – “We Can’t Hide our Pride!” dress in Collins school Shirt
iPod Day
We will have our first Ipod Day on October 10th. Students are allowed to listen to their Ipods in all classrooms, if they bring $5 at the beginning of the day. Money is given to their homeroom teacher. The $5 goes toward Collins Alumni Scholarship Fund that we give to high school seniors during the College Park High School Senior Scholarship Night in May.
Students do not listen to Ipods during PE, Band or Orchestra and Music
Students are encouraged to download any music (school appropriate) to their devices because they will not be able to stream with our wifi system.
If students are using cell phones to listen to their downloaded digital music they may not take pictures or videos with the cell phones. The phone is to only be used as a way to listen to school appropriate music.
Orchestra
We are off to a great start in orchestra! All students should have a binder, sheet protectors, dividers, pencil pouch, pencils and orchestra books in class every day so they can participate in class. Every student should be bringing the binder and instrument home to practice daily.
Practice reports are due from students every Tuesday. Students should be asking you to sign the practice report each week. Please sign into Canvas Canvas to view assignments and important dates. Detailed information about what to practice can be found in Canvas.
Honor Orchestra is every Tuesday and Friday from 7:40-8:30 in the Orchestra Room. The door will be unlocked only for Honor Orchestra students by 7:35a.m. Please use the door to the building that is across from the orchestra room.
If you ordered a Fine Arts Shirt those should be delivered within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
Choir
Collins Chorale Rehearsals
Tuesday or Wednesday starting at 7:30
Thursday - All Choir Students until 5 PM
Our first concert is October 7 and is the feeder concert for College Park.
That is only two more rehearsals to prepare our wonderful piece of music.
My favorite communication tool for parents is Remind. I know that some of you have been able to sign on to Collins Chorale, and that is great.
If not, this is an attempt to remedy that situation. You will need the code - it is @2a77fk
Art
If a student does not yet have their sketchbook please try and pick one up as soon as possible as we work in it every day. These can be purchased at Walmart, Target, or any arts and crafts store.
We are collecting our Art fee for this year that can be paid online using the information below. All funds will be used to purchase supplies that we will use during the year to hone our artistic skills!
