A Message From Dr. Browne - January 8, 2024 - Happy New Year Edition
Welcome to the year 2024!
I hope that your winter break has been one full of rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, and that everyone is in good spirits and good health. I am looking forward to seeing all of our Cougars back in the building today!
Quarter 2 report cards will be emailed and sent home on January 10th. Students who do not earn passing grades during this second quarter, put their overall semester average at risk, jeopardize their final averages, and end up failing courses for the year. Students who fail the 1st semester will make up the initial invitation list for mandatory attendance in summer school. Now is the time to ensure that your child is maintaining passing grades in order to move on to the next grade. Students may continue working on their Edgenuity courses in order to finish by the deadline. We want to see our student succeed so make sure they complete each course with a passing grade.
Testing schedules for Winter MAP, Reading Plus, IXL, and/or i-Ready diagnostics will be announced this week so that students can prepare accordingly. As always, we want our students to strive to show us how much they've grown in the content areas of reading and math so our teachers know how much farther our student needs to be pushed. They have to take the assessments seriously and decide that it matters to them. These are the scores that will help determine what level of classes they are eligible to enroll in for next year. We want all of our students to do their best, and we also want to continue to show our district that students at Lady's Island Middle School are scholars that are truly invested in their education. We are determined to make even more growth on the SCREADY state assessments in May and maintain and increase our AVERAGE score on our next SC State school report card.
Make sure that your students take school, learning, and education seriously. Students should be at school on time daily and be prepared with an attitude that demonstrates their willingness to participate in class activities and their desire to to their best. The support that you provide in helping your student understand this is paramount to our collective mission of creating better outcomes four our students and their futures.
Please review the contents of this newsletter in its entirety for details about specific happenings this week, and what you can do to make sure that you and your children are ready to go.
Our renewed focus on "Culture, Community, and Connections" will help us build the foundation for our future!

School staff will always asks students to remove or change improper clothing, provide them with options from our uniform supply closet (if we have their sizes available), and/or contact parents to bring items to change. If these changes are not able to be addressed in a timely manner, students will be relocated to the ISS room until a change can be made. When uniform violations continue to occur, administrators will utilize the Uniform Enforcement Guidelines listed within the policy to address these concerns.
The entire BCSD Uniform Policy is attached below for your review and reference.
