From the Principal's Desk...
Last week our students and many of our families were able to enjoy the 3rd and 4th grade students in their spring performance. The students worked hard to prepare for the big night and their efforts really paid off! We want to thank Mrs. Dabbs for all of her work preparing the students! We would also like to thank Ms. Guenther for designing the set and to all of the teachers that came and helped with the students. Bravo to all!
Once we return from Spring break, our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the IAR.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the annual 5Essentials Survey. The survey is administered by the UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State of Education. Our school is required to have at least 20% of parents to complete and submit the survey. To date, we have a response rate of 32%.
There is still time to take the survey! Please click here for more information and receive the link to the survey. The survey results have an impact on our State Report Card so your participation is appreciated.
The second trimester has ended and grades are available for your viewing in PowerSchool. Directions for viewing the report cards can be found here.
We hope you have an enjoyable and safe Spring Break. We will see you on Monday, April 4.
SCOTY Award Winners
On March 22, Evan Villa and Finnegan Cahill were honored at West Leyden High School as this year's School Citizens of the Year. They were nominated by not only the fifth grade teachers, but by the entire staff. Please read below to see how they earned this honor. Congratulations to Evan & Finn!
Evan is a student that makes you want to be a better teacher. He is a natural leader in the classroom and eager to learn and push himself and others to the next level. Evan is a leader on and off the court, where he showcases true sportsmanship. His ability to make everyone around him be better is admirable. Evan’s kindness and compassion towards others is felt by all, especially his younger brothers.
A true leader inspires everyone around them to be a better person. Finnegan Cahill is an outstanding example of a leader in our school community. He is a proud athlete, friend, and older brother. His matury and work ethic is unmatched. Finnegan always stands up for what is right and ensures that everyone’s voice is heard. Whether it’s in the classroom or on the court, Finnegan’s enthusiasm and effort shine.
Construction Update
Our brand new wing is opening April 3rd!
When students come back from spring break, our newly installed elevator will be able to be used by those who need it to access all areas of the building. Our new wing includes two new classrooms, a breakout room and a large storage closet. It also includes access to our new courtyard for students to use. We are very excited to use this new area and appreciative of the additional space.
At Elmwood Park High School...
Renovations to the Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room and Library will begin on March 25 to take advantage of students and staff being on spring break. The renovations will continue through the fall of 2023 with an anticipated completion date of early December 2023
The construction company will be staging in the District Office Parking Lot (north east section of the high school) and will be fencing off a secure area to work behind. The construction company will install a construction barrier wall around the LGI which will allow for the construction crew to renovate the building and be completely separated from the students and staff while school is in session. All construction workers will have a background check and be badged to work on school grounds.
During the construction project, student and staff parking and entrance procedures will remain the same (other than no access to the District Office parking lot).
Updates, pictures, and videos will be posted periodically to our website, found here.
