We invite you to join us on December 19 at 1:15 for penguin crafts and a special snack. A reminder, any food sent in to share with the class must be completely nut-free. Here is the sign up link:

## Hour of Code

Last Wednesday, your children participated in the Hour of Code, a world-wide initiative to interest students in computer science. Ask your child about his/her experience learning to code with Mrs. I - our media specialist.

## Discovering Themes

Can a person move a mountain? Ming Lo seems to think so! Ask your student what happened when Ming Lo went to the wise man to solve his problem. We examined the events of the story and discussed the "themes," or big ideas in the book. Happiness is one of the themes in Ming Lo Moves the Mountain.

## Teddy Bear Clinic

On Monday December 15, the Teddy Bear Clinic comes to Bryant, and our class will visit to learn about healthy habits.

## Snow Angels, giving gifts for the holidays

Thanks to all who donated gifts or gift cards to help families in our community this season!

## Writing Binders

Students are excited to be using their new Writer's Workshop Binders! The binder will help our organization, and contains tools for Writer's Workshop, like a personal word wall and an alphabet chart. Thanks to Mrs. Shee for putting together the binders!

## Fact Power! Practice over Break

Last week in math we began practicing doubles facts. Learning basic math facts makes it much easier to work complex problems in the future.

The "doubles" facts are very helpful to know.

1 + 1 =

2 + 2 =

3 + 3 =

and so on, through 10 + 10.

It is important that your student knows the combinations of 10. Use ten pennies, hide some under a plate or paper. Ask, what goes with ___ to make 10?

1 + 9

2 + 8

3 + 7

4 + 6

5 + 5

## Parent Lending Library

Most Tuesdays after school you can find the Parent Library open right in Bryant's foyer. There are several carts with bins of leveled books. Choose however many books you need and return them the following week, or whenever your child finishes practicing with them. There is no "check-out" process, just browse, choose and go. You can also return them in your child's backpack. You can find your child's reading level in the report card, or contact me for more information.

## Healthy Snack Sign-up

Thank you for the recent donations of yogurt, clementines and other snacks! Students really enjoy having fruit and other healthy foods for snack. Here is the link to our snack sign-up if you would like to send something in on a Wednesday or Friday.
