April Meeting . . . A Visit From Kaiser Permanente
Dr. Jeffrey Fellows, a health economist at the Center for Health Research at Kaiser, will be a guest speaker at our meeting this month. He will share some information about Covid especially as it relates to our teens. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions. Don't pass up this opportunity if you are still confused by information out there about the Covid-19 virus.
Also at our April Meeting . . .
We invited Brooklyn to come and speak to us about his platform. Come and check out what he has to say. The Multnomah County special election will be May 18, 2021.

At our March Meeting
- We had to put off our PTO/PTA discussion. Look for this topic to be a part of our May or June meeting.
- Ms. Love, Jefferson Vice Principal, brought her always positive self and shared some very uplifting appreciation and lots of helpful information about the hybrid model and return to in-person for some of our students. She also shared information about the principal hiring process to hire a new principal at Jefferson

Getting to Know Your Board Members
Georgie Honl, PTSA Vice President
Georgie needs no introduction to many of us. What many of you do know is that Georgie is devoted to the Jefferson community. She has volunteered her time in many ways over the years including supporting athletics, developing a food pantry first in the school and now distributing to the community. Being of service is what Georgie is all about.
What you may not know is that she has a connection to Jefferson that goes way, way back. Georgie's mother graduated from Jeff back in 1962. Both her husband and oldest son are graduates of JHS, her daughter is about to graduate and her youngest, currently a student at Faubion, can't wait until he is an official Demo too.
Georgie is a proud Middle Eastern American with Lebanese and Syrian roots and a native Oregonian, living in North Portland for 27 years! She graduated from Mt. Hood Community College with an associates degree in cosmetology and has had her own hair studio since 2002. Georgie loves spending time with her family, playing games, working out, running and competing in local races.
Georgie currently serves as our PTSA Vice President. She also served as the PTSA President from 2018 to 2020 and was an active member before that. Thank you Georgie for your 'can do' spirit and commitment to our community.

Jefferson Senior Celebration Planning
We are still seeking donations for a raffle prizes and a prize wheel at the event and cash donations to help fund the event. If you know of any businesses that may be interested in donating, we would love to reach out to them.
If you are interested in participating or helping out, contact Tracey Dunlap at email4tracey@gmail.com.

PTSA OFFICERS FOR 2021-22
We are looking for officers in all positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and 'Elect-' positions for those who are interested but want to ease in, like President-Elect, VP-Elect, etc. Nominations will be taking place in a couple of months.
We are working really hard to create an organization that goes beyond what we think of as a typical PTSA. We have a vision of a group that is Parent, Guardian, Care-Giver, Grandparent, Teacher, Staff Member, Administrator, Student, Alumni, Community Member. Be a part of this re-creation. We would love to hear your thoughts.
Contact information for the Board is at the bottom of this newsletter.

We have made almost $250!
You can get a Blue Bag by contacting Laura Bullock, president@demosptsa.org or you can pick up a Blue Bag or drop off cans and bottles at the food pantry on Tuesdays and Fridays between 12:00 and 3:00.

Food Pantry Celebrates It's One Year Anniversary!
When things began to close down in March of 2020, the little Jefferson PTSA Food Pantry decided to go big, in hopes of serving the greater community during an unprecedented time. With the help of several local partners and resources, we transformed our small internal operation whose goal was to make sure the kids in school didn't go hungry during the school day and turned it into a substantial resource for families in the community.
On March 19th, we celebrated our one year anniversary with a celebration with the families and community members we serve and have gotten to know so well. There was pizza, beverages and treats. We held a drawing and people were able to win many prizes including a flat-screen TV that was donated to us, new Columbia coats, Fred Meyer gift cards and boxes full of home essentials. It was a heart-warming day. Much thanks to Georgie Honl and her crew!
The food pantry continues, so pass the word along:
When? Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00.
Where? At Jefferson, on the N Commercial side of the school *
- Want to donate? Drop off on Tuesday or Friday or https://jefferson-high-ptsa.square.site
* We are now set up under the wrestling gym overhang, still on N Commercial. Look for our blue and gold banner. Please share with anyone you know who may be experiencing any food insecurity.
