THE TRAVILAH MEDIA CENTER IS A PLACE OF LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS IN ALL SUBJECTS.

Hour of Code (December)

Most K-5 students participated in Hour of Code using websites. Younger students used Kodable and Tynker. Grade 3, 4 and 5 students practiced their coding using Code.org.

"The Hour of Code is a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming."

Makerspace (STEAM)

We are planning to open our Science Technology Engineering Arts & Mathematics Makerspace in February.

Students can now learn with Snap Circuits, Legos, K'Nex, Duct tape creations, Coding games, and more. Our Makerspace also includes flexible workspace.

We are collecting donations of new or gently used items for our Makerspace. Needed items include: LEGOS, (small or DUPLO), construction paper, Snap Circuits, Play-doh, origami paper, etc.

The Travilah Classic Scholar Reading Program

The Travilah Classic Scholar Reading Program is optional and the purpose is to encourage the students to explore the classics in children’s literature. Students who return the signed permission slip to Mrs. Potts or Mrs. Simkanich in the Media Center will be given a folder with a list of nearly 300 classic children’s books that are available in the Travilah Media Center. These books range in reading level from picture books to lengthy chapter books and all are a part of our cultural and literary heritage. Students that successfully complete the program will be recognized at the Travilah Year-End Award Ceremony.

Travilah Online Resources

Online Resources are available to all students. Additional resources, usernames, and passwords are available in our school library media center. The online resources can be accessed through the Travilah website (Media Center page), Destiny Travilah Page, or through the MCPS website. These resources are student-friendly and educational.

Media Center Book Donor Program

Parents and friends of Travilah students are invited to participate in a program to obtain new books for Travilah’s Media Center. Help us fill our shelves while honoring those we love! Donor Form.
