What is World Youth Day? (WYD)

WYD is an event for young people all around the world, wanting to explore or talk about their faith and be with other young people who have the same faith as them.

When did World Youth Day start?

WYD started because at the end of Holy Year of Redemtion in 1984, over 300,000 young people around the world responded to John Paul II for an International Jubilee of youth on Palm Sunday in St. Peter's square. The following Palm Sunday, our Holy Father welcomed the Youth to Rome again on December 20th, 1985. the first official WYD was help in 1986. The first theme was -

Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you.

Who is involved with World Youth Day?

Of course the young people all around the world.

As well as the Pope, any priests, volunteers, singers, bands and people involved.
