Lester Park School Weekly Update
January 14, 2021
Dear Families,
We are excited to have our students returning to Lester Park School 5 days a week! With the change to Full In-Person Learning, we have updated our Student Procedures. You will find them in blue in the link below.
Lester Park Student Procedures (Please Read)
Teacher Changes due to switching Learning Methods
* Students who were "Hybrid Learning" in the fall and will now be "Distant Learners" for the remainder of the school year, will likely have a new teacher.
* Students who were "All Distant Learning" in the fall and will now be "In-Person Learners" for the remainder of the school year, will likely have a new teacher.
* All of these changes will take place in Infinite Campus this coming Monday & Tuesday, Jan 18 & 19. Parents should check the child's teacher in Infinite Campus Wednesday, Jan 20, to verify their child's teacher. We will email the parents as well if their child's teacher changes, but to be safe parents should check Infinite Campus.
Other changes will include our front doors
Beginning next week, the interior front doors will all be locked. You will need to be buzzed in to access the "homework" tables. These tables will gradually go away as the specific grades return to school. By Feb 8th, we will be back to having two small tables near the cafeteria door in the front entry for our remaining Distant Learners to access items. Any remaining items of In-Person students will be given to the teacher to distribute.
Full 5-Day In-Person Learning will begin:
Monday, Jan 25, for Kindergarten-2nd Grade
Monday, Feb 8, for 3rd-5th Grade
Due to preparation time needed with the change to In-Person Learning, elementary students will not have school Jan 19-21. Students also do not have school Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr Day, nor do they have school the next Friday due to semester break. This means elementary students will have NO SCHOOL all of next week, January 18-22.
Since there is NO SCHOOL all next week, parents will not have to do daily attendance, nor will they have to worry about receiving a 5pm attendance call. :)
The next school newsletter will be emailed Thursday, January 21.
Upcoming Dates:
Jan 18...NO SCHOOL (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
Jan 19-21...NO Elementary SCHOOL (Due to preparation for return to In-Person Learning)
Jan 22...NO SCHOOL - Semester break (Grading Day for teachers)
Jan 25...In-Person Learning begins for Grades K-2
Feb 8...In-Person Learning begins for Grades 3-5
Feb 9 & 12...Picture Retake Days
Feb 12...PTA Family Virtual Valentine Date Night!

Important changes to Breakfast and Lunches (bagged and at school)
School lunches will continue to be free for In-Person students through the end of the school year. If a student brings a cold lunch and would like a milk, the cost is 50 cents. If a hot luncher wants an extra milk, the cost is also 50 cents.
The free bagged breakfasts/lunches will only be available Tuesday-Thursday next week. You will be able to pick them up at Lester Park School in the bus parking lot at the loading dock.
However starting Monday, Jan 25, bagged breakfast and lunches are only available at the middle and high schools. They will NOT be available at Lester Park School.
2020-21 Yearbooks are now on sale!
Order form hardcopies will be going home with students Jan 25 or Feb 8. Hardcopies will also be placed in the front door entrance Feb 8 for Distant Learners.
By ordering online, you won't have to worry about lost money orders, and it will provide you with a receipt that you have ordered one.
Updated 8-Day Specialist Schedule
We will be going back to an 8-Day rotation for Art, Music, Phy Ed, and Media. You can find it here:

Community Flyers:
Lifting Up COVID Safety
COVID safety is more important than ever, as local schools begin bringing students back to in-person learning and athletics and activities resume.
“With vaccines on the way and local numbers going down, we definitely have a lot of hope,” said John Magas, Superintendent of Duluth Public Schools. “We don’t want another spike, however. For our schools and our communities, we encourage everyone to continue to follow COVID safety protocols.”
In a series of video messages and posters, members of the Duluth, Superior and Proctor school districts and others are encouraging citizens to continue to follow COVID safety guidelines to help our Northland communities.
