Middle School Awards
2019-20
Leadership Award
Each year our staff looks at students to receive the Leadership Award who show outstanding leadership skills and represent the goals of SBA. These students understand scripture when it states in Psalms 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord.” They also understand that serving people allows them to serve the Lord, but naturally lead others personally, in a team setting, and throughout the SBA community. These students have personal strengths and attributes that draw people to follow their God-given lead.
Congratulations Caleb, Mallory, and Zach!

Lebron Sterchi Service Award
Serving others is modeled & encouraged and follows the biblical principles laid out in Galatians 5:13 which says,
“ You, my brothers, were called to be free.
But do not use your freedom to indulge
the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.”
The Lebron Sterchi Spirit of Service Award honors a man who served our campus every day for 12 years as our Educational Consultant and has served our city in many capacities for many years. Our students saw him doing anything that needed to be done when he was on campus. He is an example of what we just read in scripture!
We are excited to present this award to a special SBA student who also does many things in our middle school with a servant’s heart. This year we give the Lebron Sterchi Spirit of Service Award to Savannah Inman. She truly exemplifies all that this award embodies. She will be honored with this plaque and her name has been placed on the permanent plaque which hangs in the middle school hallway.
Congratulations Savannah!
Spirit of Silverdale Award
This year we are giving an award to a student who embodies the characteristics that make Silverdale Baptist Academy a great place to go to school. Our students are privileged to hear from our Head of School every year about leaving a legacy and telling our story. She challenges them to look around at their school and make it better for those who follow them. This year there is a student who is looking back, looking around and looking ahead with suggestions to make our middle school a better place. This student is steady and quiet while serving in many ways to make SBA a better place. We want to award the Becky Hansard Spirit of Silverdale Award to Sam Burger.
Congratulations Sam!
Barnabas Award
Barnabas was a disciple of Jesus Christ who had several outstanding qualities. Some of them were being an encouragement to others, exhibiting servant-leadership, building harmony among the community, being competent and innovative, and being a steadfast and dedicated follower of Christ. This year we want to recognize the student who follows his example and possesses the qualities that he had. We want to honor and recognize Rylie Brannon.
Congratulations Rylie!
Scholar Athlete Award
This award goes to an 8th grade athlete who excels in the classroom and in his sport. This year we have an athlete with a 95.4 average in his core classes at the semester. He has also participated in 3 sports this year which is hard to do, and has done it well. This athlete’s coaches describe him as a great person and teammate. We want to honor and recognize Nate Hampton.
Congratulations Nate!
Take The Lead Fine Arts Award
The recipient of this award will have her name placed on a plaque at SBA and will also receive a plaque to take home. The student receiving this award must have been involved with the arts for multiple years and possess the following characteristics:
Exceptional talent
Integrity on and off the stage
Have Leadership abilities
The 2019-20 “Take the Lead” Award goes to Sarah Moyers.
Although Sarah did not get to perform in A Night At the Wax Museum, she was more than prepared and we HOPE to still see her in the future if we can work it out.
Congratulations Sarah!
Outstanding Debut Fine Arts Award
The “Outstanding Debut” Award is given to a student who was supposed to be involved in an SBA performance for the first time this year, but unfortunately did not get to perform. However, he worked hard until COVID-19 caused us to leave the building. We look forward to much more from him in the future. We want to honor and recognize Connor Bowman.
Congratulations Connor!
Presidential Gold Awards
To be eligible for the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, students must earn a 93 average for the first semester of their 8th grade year AND also have scored in the 95th percentile in at least one of the categories on their 7th grade ACT Aspire Test.

Honors Reading Medals
The Honors Reading Program offers students the opportunity to go above and beyond reading requirements. Charlotte Mason believed that reading "Living Books" enriched lives, bringing a feast of experiences to children. They can keep lines of communication open during the adolescent years by reading some of these books with their parents. SBA encourages our families and students to read these “Living Books” and participate in the Honors Reading Program. Students who participate in this program do more than what the school requires for reading.
Gold Medal = 15 books
Silver Medal = 10 books
