Hubble Space Telescope
Discover all of its findings
What is it?
The Hubble is a telescope that orbits the Earth. The Hubble Telescope was the first major optical telescope to be placed in space. Our view of the universe and where we are in it has never been the same since. It was a scientific and societal revolution!
History of the Hubble
Edwin Hubble was the person who the telescope was named after he used the largest telescope of his day in the 1920s at the Mt. Wilson Observatory near Pasadena, Calif. Hubble”s launch and deployment in April 1990 marked the most significant advancement in astronomy since Galileo’s telescope. Hundreds of scientist and engineers have the responsibilities of making sure that the Hubble is always ready to go.
Some of the Hubble's findings
Firestorm
This is a small portion of the nebula near a star cluster.
Butterfly Nubula
Looks like butterfly wings but is actually made up of gas heated more than 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hubble ultra deep field
This is probity the Hubble's most lasting legacy this is almost the entire sweep of the entire Cosmo.
How it works
The Hubble orbits the Earth and being already a strong telescope can see far into the universe. The Hubble takes hundreds even thousands of pictures back to earth shining light on which once a dark universe.
Anymore servicing missions?
A servicing mission is when an astronauts comes up and visits the Hubble and brings it up to date. Servicing mission number 4 has gone and past on May 11, 2009 and that was the final trip to the Hubble.
