Fall 2021 SBA Scores
Dear Families,
Students in grades 4 through 8 recently took Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in English language arts (ELA) and math. Sixth grade students also took the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). These assessments were postponed from Spring of 2021 for all Washington state students. The primary purpose of the fall test was a brief check-in on how schools and students are doing after the 2020-21 school year.
Preliminary student scores from those assessments are now available in the desktop version of Skyward Family Access (but not the mobile app). Log into Family Access and choose Test Scores from the menu on the left. Fall 2021 tests have a date of 11/1/2021.
If you don’t know your Family Access username or password, click “Forgot your Login/Password” on the login page and enter the email address on file with the district.
On these tests, students whose performance level score was an L3 or L4 demonstrated most of the skills and knowledge required to meet state expectations on a typical end-of-year test. Test results are only one way to know how students are doing in ELA, math and science. If you have questions about your student’s learning, please contact their teacher or school principal.
For more information, please see OSPI’s Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about Fall 2021 Assessments.
Substitute Teachers, Paraeducators & Custodians Needed
We are in desperate need of substitute teachers, paraeducators and custodians . If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, you need a 4 year degree and complete an application, which can be found on our website. Please see, or call, Jade Hughes in the District Office for more details.

Test To Stay Program
We are making some changes to follow the most recent guidance from the state department of health and quarantine periods. As usual the timing wasn’t the best. Right after we sent information home with students about the Test to Stay program, the state guidance changed. The new required quarantine time is seven days for students or staff who are symptom free and can produce a negative PCR or rapid antigen test result taken on day 5, 6, or 7 after exposure (students or staff with symptoms are still required to get a PCR Covid test).
In the end, this news shortens the quarantine time for students and staff who are close contacts. Students who are identified as a close contact with another student at school can participate in Test to Stay and this process is now seven days instead of ten days. Students exposed outside of school can return to school after seven days, too, as long as they are symptom free and produce a negative PCR or rapid antigen test result taken on day 5, 6, or 7 after exposure. Anyone who is a close contact who does not participate in Test to Stay or refuses to get tested, must still stay quarantined for ten days and can return to school after that window of time has passed as long as the individual is symptom free.
This new time frame above combined with the recent eligibility to get vaccinated for students ages 5-11 will combine to keep more kids in school as we progress through the school year.
COVID Testing for Students with Symptoms
*Exception: If your student has tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, please call the school for testing directions.
We have had fast results and excellent reviews from this site in Auburn:
And here are other testing sites in Pierce County: Testing Information

Make sure your child's mask has two or more tightly woven layers, fits snugly against the face, and covers both the nose and the mouth.
Student Vaccinations
If your student has been vaccinated for Covid-19, please turn in proof of vaccination.
*Fully vaccinated individuals do not have to quarantine after being in close contact with someone who is Covid positive! They must monitor for Covid symptoms for a full 14 days. A Covid test is recommended on day 3-5 after last exposure. If any symptoms develop, they must stay home and get a Covid PCR test - NOT an antigen or rapid antigen test. Fully vaccinated means it has been at least 14 days since a person received their final Covid vaccine.
