Mission Statement
St. Joseph Catholic School fosters a diverse community of disciples empowered through a rigorous and inclusive Catholic education rooted in Gospel values and service to others.
Reading Rocks
Our students are enjoying extra minutes of reading this week as part of our PTO sponsored Read A Thon! We are grateful for the outpouring of support for this fundraiser. To date, we have raised $35,303 for our school. We cannot wait until next Thursday, October 1st when Mrs. Keown, Ms. Mukai, Ms. McGillin, Coach Edwards, Mr. Ortiz, Mrs. Freeland, Mrs. Magnole, Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Insua, Mr. Reilly and Mrs. Haas will dress like rock stars! Prizes will also be awarded on Thursday, October 1st. Those prizes include: ice cream party for the top class, amazon gift cards for the top three individuals who raised the most money, drawings for our special prizes, etc.
The only goal we haven't reached is the 50% participation goal. We are currently at 45%. If we reach 50% of our students participating in the read a thon, our whole school will receive a dress down day and a snow cone. If you haven't received/submitted a donation, it's not too late. Please make a donation by 3pm tomorrow to count towards prizes. Donations may be made in the school office or online at https://app.99pledges.com/fund/SJCS.
#Allinthistogether
Thank you for continuing to support our protocols and taking all necessary precautions to help keep each other healthy at school. If you have any questions about the protocols, please check out the Covid-19 Reference Guide on the school website under News and Information. You are also encouraged to call Mrs. Haas or Mr. Reilly at school. Our families are doing a great job of keeping students home when they aren't feeling well or may have had possible exposure. We are most grateful!
No School
Mass
We celebrated our first school mass of the year earlier this week. Our next school mass will be on Wednesday, September 30th. Students in grades 2, 4 and 7 will attend mass in the church and should wear their mass uniforms. The rest of the students will celebrate mass via livestream from their classrooms.
Amazon Smile
With so many families making purchases on Amazon these days, we are excited to launch a new opportunity for families to help raise money for our school. At no additional cost to you, you can now earn money for our school while shopping on Amazon. It's easy! Please use the link below whenever you shop on Amazon. virtual folders next week
Parents of Virtual Learners,
Since we don't have school on Friday, October 2nd, teachers will have folders ready to do the folder exchange on Thursday, October 1st. Parents may also come to the school to exchange folders on Friday, October 2nd until 12noon if that is more convenient.
google classroom
Starting this week, all middle school students have access to their classes via Google Classroom. This will allow students to see their homework online in case they need that information while at home. Teachers will have a preview of the week on the Stream tab of their class and then on the Classwork tab, all work will be divided up by week to make it easier for students to locate the information they need. Intermediate and primary students will soon have their work included on Google Classroom also.
clever
Clever is a single-sign on portal that allows your child to log in to one site and access all applications they need for school from one location. Some of the applications do not require your child to log in at all from Clever and others require them to log in the first time. Our primary teachers will be sending home QR codes that your child can scan from the Clever webpage and it will allow them right in to the site. Our intermediate and middle school students will need their Google login information and then they will simply click on Log in with Google. The URL for Clever is https://clever.com/in/sjcswh
Here is a link to a short video to help you with understanding Clever - https://youtu.be/IwRaACaIA0Y
discover
Due to COVID, our library media experience is different this year. Mrs. Pierce is going into classrooms to do lessons and check out books to our students. Students can use Destiny Discover to go online and hold books so that Mrs. Pierce knows which books they want. When a student puts a book on hold, it pops up on Mrs. Pierce’s screen and she pulls those books for the next time she is in your child’s class for their library media time. Please help your child with logging into Discover and placing holds on their books so that they can get the books they want. Their login information is below along with the link to Discover.
NOTE: If your child is a virtual learner, Mrs. Pierce has started giving the homeroom teacher your child’s books when she is in their room so that they can go in their Friday pick-up folder.

God bless mrs neale
Mrs. Nancy Neale, a beloved teacher who touched the lives of many members of our St. Joseph Catholic School community, passed away last week at the age of 96. Mrs. Neale helped many children learn to read in her twenty years as a reading specialist, operating the school’s Julie Center. Her dedication to her students and SJCS is evident in the many success stories related by fellow teachers and former students and their parents. Mrs. Neale will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mrs. Neale.
