Talley Street Upper Elementary

Weekly Update

From the Principal

Dear Talley Street Community,

It has been a great beginning to the new school year! Thank you for every one’s support! The Talley Street Community is amazing! The carpet in the gym has been removed and the new sports court has been installed. A temporary bike rack is now in the front of the building. The permanent racks will be installed soon. Progress is being made on the playground. More equipment was installed over the weekend and work began on the basketball goals this morning. Expressions for the SLT and PTO are due to me by this Friday, August 9 th . I encourage everyone to get involved with one of these important groups. They both are crucial to the success of the school.

Have a wonderful week!

Billy

These rallies will take place on Friday mornings in the gym beginning at 7:45 a.m. and lasting until approximately 8:15 a.m. We will sing songs, dance, share highlights from the week, and celebrate our amazing CREW. Please note that we will be dividing the school in half to accommodate Talley Rallies. Your child's class will attend every-other-Friday. Here are the groups:

GROUP B: Edwards, Irons, Morrison, Sulmers, Woodbridge, Wren, Hicks, Long,

Mallory, Scott, Foy, Freidrich, Gilley, Falco, Camarind, Benzin

For the month of August, parents/community members will NOT be able to

Big picture

From the Nurse

Please make sure all health forms and medication authorization forms are returned to the teacher or nurse in the next two weeks. All medications must be labeled. If it is a prescription, the original label must be on. For over the counter medications (Tylenol, Benadryl, Motrin/Advil), please write the name of your child on the box or bottle. The over the counter medications must be unopened and sealed for your child's safety. If your child has more than one medication, there must be an administration form for each medicine. Thank you!

Room Parents Still Needed

Room Parent Volunteers Needed

Several 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes are still in need of room parents. Please see this link for room parent needs and reach out to Shannon Connolly (swconnolly@gmail.com) and Jenny Madsen (jennifer.madsen@gmail.com) if you are able to volunteer. If your child's classroom has a room parent or two already, please consider volunteering to be a volunteer for one of the "specials". We are still in need of a musically inclined parent or two for our Music teachers, as well as a few volunteers to help the Spanish teachers, Paras and Special Ed teachers. Thank you for helping to support our teachers and school!

Spanish Classes

Students are off to a great start in Spanish this year! Our Spanish program is designed to be flexible to accommodate students at varying levels of Spanish language learning, and we understand that we have a range of students—from those who speak Spanish in their homes to those who are coming in from another district that does not have a Spanish program at the elementary level. We will therefore evaluate individual student's level of Spanish and adjust our instruction accordingly. The first couple of weeks will be spent reviewing material and working on classroom culture. We will then move into different thematic and cultural units, that can be spiraled according to level. We worked on introductions this week, and students used phrases like "Me llamo" and "¿Cómo te llamas?" and "Mucho gusto" to achieve their learning target of introducing themselves to others. We are looking forward to an excellent year!

Music Classes

Hello Talley Music Community! Mr. Thompson and I are so happy to be your music teachers. We are excited to get know, as well as build, your musical interests and talents. As soon as we have information about band and chorus, we will be informing all those interested.
