Notes from the LMC
The September Wrap Up
Our First Month in Review
We had 11 Systems I & II/Learning Lab classes come down to pick out independent reading books.
All 9 6th grade Making It Work classes came down for orientation and borrowing.
1196 books were checked out to patrons in our first month of borrowing.
3 teachers have requested we pull curriculum resources (books, lots of books) (ancient man, body systems, and space exploration). We can do the same for you!
21 students/staff members returned their summer reading brochures, and read a total of 310 books this summer.
131 new records (books/magazines) have been added to our collection.
I taught EIGHT 8th grade ELA classes about the THRILLING formatting rules of MLA 8.
Tammy and I are teaching 6 weekly Digital Citizenship lessons to the 6th grade MIW classes.
24 classes are scheduled to come to the Book Fair next week!
The Book Fair
All staff will receive 20% off as is the tradition of the fall fair. Teachers received a $5.00 off coupon for purchases of $20 or more.
Once again, we are collecting donations for the All for Books fundraiser that allows us to purchase books for students who would otherwise be unable to buy books. If you know of such student, please let me know PRIOR to the fair, so we can do our best to make their book dreams come true.
Thank you to the ELA teachers who will be bringing their classes down to shop! To the rest of you, please stop by to preview the fair, make a recommendation, donation or purchase!
Looking for a Guest Presenter? Co-Teacher? Entertainer?
Thanks to those of you who have already reached out to either collaborate/use me as a resource.
Making It Work/Learning Lab/Systems classes are a great place for me to push in and introduce resources, teach research skills, launch a reading activity-book tastings, read alouds, etc. or facilitate a Breakout Box EDU activity.
Additionally, I'd also be happy to sit down with you/your team to figure out if there is some way I can help enhance your content area learning experience, support your teaching goal, or just be a wing-man in the class when you are introducing a research project. In order to effectively co-teach, I would need some advanced notice of what the students are doing.
Please let me know if you'd like to sit down and plan for some collaborative genius.
Creepy Campout Breakout Box EDU Challenge
Here's a preview of the challenge story:
"Let’s tell some spooky campfire stories! My favorite is the one about the lady who found (and ate) a big, hairy toe that she found in the forest. No one living in the region ever saw the old woman again. The only clue to her disappearance was a giant footprint a neighbor found pressed deep into the loose soil of the meadow beside the house. The footprint was missing the left big toe. How does the story end? Let’s toast some S’mores and find out!"
PLEASE EMAIL ME TO SCHEDULE THE CHALLENGE (AVAILABLE STARTING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH).
