Miss Amy and Miss Court's Classroom
Oh what a week!
On Monday, we continued with our arctic animals theme. During choice time we put out plenty of suggestions for activities. As always though, your children help to create their own plan as they make their own choices for an activity. Today we played with magnadoodles and practiced drawing shapes, our names and silly pictures. Some friends did floor puzzles with Miss Tam on the rug. The kiddos really like the floor because of the large space that it offers. Other friends were called over to create igloos with Miss Courtney and Miss Amy. The kids had to follow directions to draw a large curve for the igloo and a little curve for the door. Then, we had to cut white strips of paper into squares. Once we had enough squares, we glued them all down to create our igloos. Everyone's igloos looked great! We reintroduced the letter L at circle time today and played a literacy game on our magnetic easel. Each student got a magnet of an item that either started with the L sound or did not. They had to come up when called and place their magnet on the corresponding side of the easel. We loved this! Today we also played in the snow using medicine droppers and paint...we experimented what would happen when we dropped the color into the snow and when the colors got all mixed.
On Tuesday, we played an interactive game with Miss Kara. It was a snowman game and your children LOVED it. They got to be active participants while they followed directions to work together in teams. In our teams we took turns to throw a snowball at each body part. Once a body part was hit, the kids got to build their snowman. They were motivated and the competitive air was flowing! To keep the healthy competitive spirit going...we started a new thing at the end of the day. In order to help motivate everyone to be independent with their coats, we hung a huge coat on the wall. As your kiddos become independent with putting on and zippering/buttoning their coats, they will get their name on the classroom coat! They love this and it is so exciting! Everyone feels good about themselves, even if they aren't all the way there yet! The kids that can zipper already are helping friends that need it. It is so cool to see everyone trying their best! Don't worry if your child isn't quite there yet...everyone is working hard together to achieve this goal!
On Wednesday, we played with some arctic animal playdough during choice time. The kids got to use penguins, polar bears , and legos for icebergs. They loved exploring the playdough in this way. Some other kids played arctic "go fish" with Miss Becky. We worked on talking to and looking at our friends to request a card. Lots of social skill development going on as well as identifying some arctic animals. Miss Becky aka our read "The Mitten" by: Jan Brett to us during story time. We loved using the animal props and placing them inside of the mitten to follow along with the book. Afterwards , we played next door with Mrs Strohl's class. We played a game to go along with the story The Mitten. Each child was an animal and when we were called, we climbed inside of a GIGANTIC Mitten while we sang a song about it. We did this 3 times so each child could have a turn. It is always fun when we play with Mrs Strohl's class, we all learn something new!
On Thursday, we had an exciting start to our day with a fire drill! Usually, we get a heads up -however today was totally unexpected. This was a nice chance to work on truly practicing for an emergency. We practiced lining up quickly and quietly and staying together. Afterwards, we finished circle time and read "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. Then we finger painted to make a snowy day scene just like in the book! We were running a bit late so it was a late snack time!
Friday, we had an extended choice time making fun snowman crafts. Then we had art with Mrs. Nice! Before we knew it it was time to go home!!
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
