Spring 2016

Director's Message

Another school year is coming to an end, and I wanted to extend my feelings of gratitude and appreciation for all of your hard work. This past school year has brought forth the beginning of some significant changes throughout the District, and many of you have been stretched to meet new expectations. I appreciate your willingness to adapt and grow with the changing times. The Department has implemented some wonderful new instructional interventions and programming, as well as added new team members that have been instrumental in providing effective supports for students. As we look to the upcoming school year, we continue to continue challenge ourselves as we adopt even more interventions, supports, and methods to improve our practice, that will further benefit student performance. I am proud to serve as your Director, and I wish all of you a very happy and safe summer break. Enjoy yourselves, and the ones closest to you, and I look forward to seeing you back in August. All the best!

End the R-Word

The Best Buddies club at Rowland High School promoted End the R-word on March 2, 2016 to ask others to pledge to stop saying the R-word. End the R-word is shortened for the word 'retard(ed)'. We want to end the use of words like this because the R-word hurts. It is exclusive, offensive, derogatory and not respectful. This is a way to create more accepting attitudes and communities for all people with disabilities. Language affects attitudes, attitudes affect actions. RHS Best Buddies sold tee shirts, made banners and a video to be shown during lunch and around campus. The club involved Buddies, peers and teachers in the video.
