Proud to Be Your Principal
Happy Friday everyone!
Just a quick reminder about a few fun activities coming up. First we have parent teacher conferences October 25 and 27 from 5:00-7:00 pm. I look forward to seeing everyone there. We also have a Pow Wow scheduled for Thursday, November 3 at 2:00 pm in our gymnasium. It is going to be a great time! Finally, we have our pumpkin carving contest on Monday, October 31, with a parade of costumes starting at 2:15 pm. Please feel free to join us in the parade and see all of the amazing costumes and carvings! A quick reminder that Halloween costumes need to be school-appropriate and have no simulated weapons. Thank you!
Proud to be your Principal,
Brent Johnson

Hi Minocqua J1 Families,
If anyone has some disposable tupperware items that you do not need, please consider donating them to the school by Wednesday, October 26. They will be used for a fundraising activity. They MUST have a lid. Consider items like old coffee canisters, ice cream buckets or yogurt containers. Thanks for your help!

5-8 School Counselor
Note from the Nurse
Although head lice are not a major health concern, the experience can be difficult and frustrating for families. Please know that as the nurse here at Minocqua J1, I look into any reported case of lice and take the appropriate action. The chances of your child getting lice through casual daily contact at school are very minimal. In our district we have had less than .016% occurrence of lice this year.
Thank You,
Pam Holtz RN BSN

Academic and Career Planning
This month in 6th and 7th grade we are beginning to talk in our guidance classes about Academic and Career Planning (ACP). A statewide initiative has been going on for the last few years to support ACP. According to the Department of Public Instruction, "ACP requires everyone to support students in the process, including academic teachers, administrators, community members, and parents. ACP honors all post-secondary routes to achieve goals, including military, apprenticeship, certification, technical college, and university recognizing that people often move in and out of different routes throughout their lives as needed."
Students in grades 6-8 have standards they have to complete for their portfolio. All of their work is being housed on Career Cruising, an online software system that is used through high school. Ask your students about their matchmaker results and what types of jobs showed up for their interests. Ask them what types of classes they should be taking to set them up for success for their future.
8th graders have a semester-long course on Academic and Career Planning. Each of them will either have this first or second semester. This class is in their elective/specials block, and they will receive a grade for the work they complete.
Career Cruising can be accessed from anywhere with the proper username and login. If you would like to see what your student is working on, I will have parent logins available during conferences.
