Learning in C2...

Literacy- We are continuing to dig deep into nonfiction text this week. As you may recall, last semester, we spent a couple of weeks on identifying the 5 W's and How in a fictional text. Now, we are transferring that knowledge to nonfiction texts. Students will be reading and studying various pieces of nonfiction literature (magazines, library books, websites, etc) and will be able to identify the "who," "what," "when," "where," "why," and "how" and why they are important pieces of information to be able to gain from a nonfiction text.

Next week, we are going to be changing gears. We'll be moving into character analysis. More specifically, we are looking at the standard RL 2.3 - "I can tell how characters in a story respond to parts in a story."

Writing - We are now focusing on Opinion Writing. During our focus on Opinion Writing it is important that your child:

States his/her opinion in the beginning

States details and reasons to support his/her opinion using link words like "because" and "also."

Provide a concluding statement.

Math- This week we have been continuing our study of shapes, but have learned how to apply fractional concepts to it. We have been focusing on partitioning rectangles into rows and columns, creating equal-sized squares.

Next week, we'll look into the division of shapes a bit deeper. For instance, learners will be required to divide rectangles and circles into halves, thirds, and fourths.
For more information or to work on this at home, follow this link - https://learnzillion.com/resources/72619-partition-rectangles-and-circles-into-equal-shares-2-g-a-3

Project Work- Classes are gathering information about their topics through field expert visits, books, observation, and online sources. As learners are ready, they will be guided toward the design phase of the project.

C2 Lego Wall

As some of you may remember, C2 requested funding at the beginning of the year through Donor's Choose. Thanks for spreading the word! Last fall, our grant was fully funded and we received the items! The Franklins installed the wall and the learners have excitedly been building ever since. We are truly thrilled to have this wonderful, engaging addition to our hallway. Many thanks for your generosity!

C2 Needs YOU! :)

Our C2 lead learners would love your help! Please consider volunteering for a lunch shift for your child's class. It’s a great way to see your children during the school day, meet their friends, and help the lead learners all at the same time. Plus, the learners love seeing their parents and grandparents helping out with their class in the lunchroom! Younger siblings are always welcome to come with you during your volunteer slot! General duties include walking your child's class to the lunchroom, assisting them in line, and sitting with them at the lunch table. After lunch, you will remind them to pick up their trash and clean up their area, line them up and walk them back to the classroom.
