Polkadot Class Happenings

Week of September 9th - 13th

What We Are Learning This Week

Social Studies

This week in social studies, we will be studying the historical significance of landmarks and celebrations in the community, state, and nation. Some local and state landmarks we will study include the County Courthouse, the State Capital, and more. Some national landmarks we will learn about include the Statue of Liberty, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the White House, etc... You can support your child at home by helping your child understand the difference between local, state, and national as this can be a hard concept. You can also point out local landmarks you see in everyday life and explain its significance.

Other Important Information

Parent Orientation - Second Grade is planning our Parent Orientation Night where we will talk about our curriculum, homework, schedule, and more. More information will be coming in the following weeks. Please keep your eye out for a flyer with the time and date in your child's blue Home Folder.

Running Club Update - Designated days will be set aside for K-2 and 3-5 for Running Club in order to manage the number of students on the track in the mornings. I will let you know what days will be designated for K-2 as soon as I can. If your child has never been to running club, please encourage him/her to attend. This is a great opportunity to get in some early morning exercise. If your child eats breakfast at school, please remind him/her that s/he needs to eat breakfast before going to running club.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
