William the Conqueror, Joan of Arc, and King John

~William The Conqueror~

Biological Information

-William the Conqueror was born in 1027 into the family of Robert the first who was the the Duke of Normandy. WIlliam became the first Norman king of England in 1066. During his rule he was very fair to his people by maintaining all the powers to the Anglo Saxon Monarchy. He died in 1087.

Memorable Moments

He conquered England with his Norman Knights after ten long months. The battle became to be known as the Battle of Hastings. During the great conquerors rule he helped shape England’s feudal system so the king had greater power than the people. During the Battle of Hastings he said “I have persecuted its native inhabitants beyond all reason. Whether gentle or simple, I have cruelly oppressed them; many I unjustly inherited; Innumerable multitudes, especially in the county of York, perished through me by famine or the sword. ’William changed his name to William the conqueror after he conquered England and the Anglo Saxons.

Importance

William the conqueror was important because he set up an accurate tax system that became the Doomsday book. His greatest accomplishment was destroying Harold and conquering Harold's land in ten minutes. The battle between Harold and William is still known as the Battle of Hastings.

~Joan of Arc~

Biographical Info

In 1412 in France Joan of Arc was born. Also known as the "Maid of Orleans" she believed that God was talking to her and she had a special gift. She led an army at age fifteen then was captured and totured by the English. She died in 1431 by being burned. Joan of Arc was very patriotic and demanded respect from everyone at an early age.

Memorable Moments

Joan of Arc was a very patriotic leader that believed stringly in her faith. She was a catholic saint that led her men into a victorious battle against the English. In battle she said "In God's name, I well know that I shall have much to go through at Poitiers! But God will aid me. Now let us be going."

Importance

She helped Charles VII become king of France during the 100 years war. She also believed that God talked to her and told her sacred things no one else knew. She saw visions and use them to help lead her men. Joan of Arc died at a very young age because she was accused of wearing pants.

~King John~

Biographical Info

In 1167 King John was born to his father who was king in England. King John tried to kill his father Henry II and his step mother Eleanor of Aquitaine because he strongly dislike them both. He was not a favored king of the nobles. In fact a group of nobles tried to kill him. He died in 1216.

Memorable Moments

King John was forced to signthe Magna Carta or he was to be killed. The document made him agree to not collect taxes from nobles. He also angered many nobles that they joned together to try and kill him. Something King John would have said was "I hate my father and mother so i wan tto punish them by killing them." As a conclusion King John was a very tempered person and if a person made him mad he would kill you .

Importance

King John was important because he signed the Magna Carta. King John really didn't want to sign the document but if he didnt sign and accept the document he would be punished by death. Since King John was not a very favored king many nobles came to him demanding they have liberties granted to them.
