Benfield Family Newsletter
December 16, 2022
Greetings Benfield Families!
I would like to extend a huge thank you to our PTO who sponsored a holiday movie, hot chocolate, and popcorn party for our students. In addition, they provided the staff with wonderful treats. None of this would have been able to happen if it was not for the wonderful parents who volunteered their time. Thank you so much! It was a great event!
The School Store has opened for business and is doing well! It is open for ECI-2nd grades on Tuesday and 3rd - 5th grades on Wednesday from 7:40 - 8:00 a.m.
Mark your calendars for Dr. Bedell's Listening Tour on January 5th at Severna Park High School at 6:30 p.m. This will be a great time to meet our superintendent and ask questions.

PBIS at Benfield
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate.
Why do we need a System for Teaching Behavior at Benfield?
To provide consistency in school-wide expectations
To support social and emotional competency
To create a system for monitoring and reducing unwanted behaviors
To improve academics
Our school-wide expectations are to be safe, respectful, and responsible.
We give out Pawsitive Paws to students to help…
Create regular positive interactions with students
Build positive relationships with students
Become part of positive school climate
Encourage behaviors we want to see more of
How can you support our PBIS goals at home?
Ask your child how they were respectful, responsible, and safe at school regularly.
Use this language (respectful, responsible, safe) at home so that students learn that these are positive “rules” in all environments.
When your child earns a Pawsitive Paw, give them time to share about it. Consider asking your child how they earned it and how they feel about themselves when they are respectful, responsible, and/or safe.
Encourage your child to be respectful, responsible, and safe without needing a reward and even when others aren’t watching.
Benfield PTO Winter Celebration
That's a wrap for the 2022 Benfield Elementary Winter Celebration! It was heartwarming to see all of our students celebrate the season together with big smiles on their faces.
465 Cups of Hot Chocolate + 465 Bags of Popcorn + Homeward Bound Movie + A lot of Holiday Spirit Wear=a magical day for our elementary students.
We wanted to thank the contributions we received from Dr. Ambro & Dr. Chappell, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Chacuterleigh and Donut Shack. You helped make our event special in so many ways.
The PTO also wants to extend a huge thank you to our 70+ parent volunteers. We are very fortunate to have so many parents that volunteered their time to support and help with our event yesterday. We couldn't have done it without all of you!!
In addition, we wanted to specially thank Mrs. Myers, Jen Bernard, Donna Vricella Gina Wortz, Erin DeLeon and many many more Benfield staff members. You contributed and helped in many ways yesterday. You re-arranged schedules, helped organize all our badges, provided needed materials and did whatever it took to make the day run smoothly.
Happy Holidays to all!
With Love,
The Benfield PTO
