The Ripple

July Issue

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school! Definitely not the way I wanted the new year to begin, but we are excited to be back to work with the students. Please make sure that you are connected with Skyward. There will be messages going home through this system. Since we won't have an Ice Cream Social, please log into Skyward to find out who your child's teacher will be for the upcoming year. Fortunately, we don't have many staff changes. We are working hard to find a Kindergarten teacher to replace Mrs. Emhardt. We are also looking for a special ed teacher to replace Miss Alaimo. The other Kindergarten teachers will step in to help out with the virtual learning until the new teacher is hired.

All students K-5 will need to log into the Canvas platform to access their daily learning. Students in grades 2-5 should be familiar with it as they used it last spring. K-1 students will be taught how to log in and access lessons as teachers provide live instruction. All live lessons will be recorded and placed in Canvas so families who are not able to be live can get on and receive the lesson for the day. Be sure to contact the teachers for any assistance.

School begins this Thursday, July 30. On Thursday and Friday, teachers will hold live Morning Meetings with the students. This will be a great way to make introductions and begin building relationships. The rest of these two days, teachers will be reaching out to speak to each family and answer any questions that parents have. Instruction will begin the following week.

Please know that the teachers are working hard to create rigorous lessons for their students. It is important that all students get onto Canvas and complete assignments as attendance and grades will be taken.

We ask that families are flexible, understanding, and give grace throughout this process. It is a stressful time and we all want to do what is best for our students.

Hello Washington Township Families. We will have our nurses in school clinics 9am til 3pm on July 27th, 28th, and 29th. All Indiana Health Plans will be completed with our nurses, on these days. Please bring your physician completed asthma action plans, seizure action plans, diabetic action plans, and allergy action plans to your school nurse during these open times. Please bring all medications in original packaging and all physician completed medication forms on these days. Medication forms are on Washington Township website, if needed. Parents will not be allowed to come into the nursing clinic during regular school hours, due to restricting visitors in the buildings. You will need to call the nurse and have them retrieve the medication from you at main entry of building. Students will not be allowed to receive nebulized breathing treatments in the 2020-2021 school year. We are only allowing asthma children to use inhalers, in the school building. If your child needs a nebulized treatment, they will have to be picked up from school and the treatment done at home. Daily morning medications should be given at home, if possible, to reduce the risk of healthy children being exposed. Children should also wear a face covering on the bus and in the school building. Please consider these new safety precautions when deciding on virtual learning or in-person learning for your children in the 2020-2021 school year.

Meal Distribution

Beginning Thursday, July 30th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM daily, meals will be provided curb-side. Families will drive-up and the Café staff will place the meals in the trunk.
