FSE Weekly Update

There's a Superhero in Each of Us!

February 5, 2016

Guardian of the Galaxy!

Cynthia Torres is our Guardian of the Galaxy! It is Counselor Appreciation Week and we are so thankful to have Mrs. Torres taking care of all of us!

Remember to recognize each other for great things this week!

Pride Wall Timing

One of our favorite things each day is when we get to celebrate with students who are signing the Pride Wall. One of our challenges is when we have big groups come in at one time. We aren't able to give the students individual attention and recognition. Another challenge is that Fridays tend to be crazy days in the office with parents checking students out early, coming up for lunch with their student, etc. We just want you to be aware that in order to truly give your students the recognition and celebration they deserve, please try to send them Monday through Thursdays and in small groups or 1 on 1. If you send them on Fridays, please try to send only 1 student at a time so that we can truly celebrate with them. Thank you!

FSE Superheros!

Thank you to our amazing staff for being so positive about our Tuesday Tutoring. It is exciting for us to be able to use our Tuesday time to positively impact our students. Thank you for doing what is best for them!

Extra Duty Payment form for Tutoring Due Date: February 29

Any tutoring that is completed prior to this date, please turn in 1 form to Alice per person. Thank you! Payment will be included in March paycheck.

New School Hours Next Year

The tardy bell will ring at 7:20 next year. This will allow us to capture 10 more instructional minutes a day. We will start announcements at 7:15. Students may continue to eat breakfast during instruction if they need a few more minutes. The federal guidelines for breakfast in the classroom actually wants the students eating during class time. All other hours will remain the same.

Master Scheduling for Next Year

As we continue to improve our vertical alignment, we will be looking as a district, at our minutes of instruction per content area. We will also be outlining guidelines for our literacy and math blocks. We are in the very early stages of these conversations, so if you have specific examples of ELAR or Math blocks that you want us to consider, please send them to Mrs. Keck or visit with your IF. Attached are a couple of examples of how other district outline their minutes of instruction.

School Supplies

If you have a student who needs school supplies, or if you are short school supplies, please see Cynthia. She keeps extra supplies on hand for anyone who might need it. Also, paras, if you need supplies for when you go in to support students, please see Cynthia.

Valentine Day Parties

Friday, February 12, we will celebrate Valentine's Day. Parties cannot begin before 1:30. This is also class picture day, so parties need to wait until 1:30 or later. Once you develop your note, please send a copy to Ms. Kensing.

Save the Date- June 13-17

The TEKS Resource Conference is being moved from August to June. It will be held in San Antonio, despite the rumors we heard last year about it moving to Dallas. We usually try to send teachers from each team, so please save this week when planning vacations.
