Sycamore Junior High also recently welcomed Emmy-nominated artist Kathy Wade who performed "Rhythms...Common Bonds" which celebrated the music, dance and poetry of Africa.
Young Aviators To Chat with Astronauts In Space
Sycamore students are getting an opportunity that is out of this world, literally!
Second graders from across the district will get to speak with astronauts aboard the International Space Station in February. Learn more about why Maple Dale Elementary is one of nine North American sites to be selected for this unique opportunity.
Sycamore High School Students Launch "Our Voices"
A group of Sycamore High School students has released a new newsletter to raise mental health awareness.
The first issue of "Our Voices" was created by teens, for teens and includes poetry, interviews, and photography. Junior Alaina Delsignore and sophomore Deeya Prakash presented the idea of a student-led mental health magazine during 1N5's Youth Mental Health Innovation Challenge last summer. Learn more about how their passion helped them gain financial support for the project.
Help Us Prevent the Spread of Illness
Sycamore Community School is closely monitoring the spread of illness as we reach the peak of cold and flu season to ensure the safety and health of students and staff.
At this time, the district is not seeing a significant increase in student absences due to illness. However, the district is taking precautionary measures. Our maintenance staff is making extra efforts to disinfect classrooms and common areas in each of our seven buildings.
We recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms.
On February 4, we sent an email home to families with more recommendations on how to help prevent the spread of illness. We also encourage families to check out the Student Health Handbook for more information.
What You Need To Know About the Coronavirus
Sycamore Community Schools is also closely monitoring the spread of 2019-nCoV, also known as the coronavirus. The district has sought advice from the Hamilton County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). We are told ODH is working to put out guidance for K-12 schools regarding the coronavirus in the coming days.
According to the CDC, no community spread of 2019-nCoV has been identified in the United States at this time. However, the CDC is recommending anyone returning to the United States who has been to parts of mainland China outside of Wuhan, Hubei Province in the previous two weeks to monitor their health in self-quarantine for 14 days. The CDC says if no symptoms appear during the 14-day period, there is no risk. For more information on 2019-nCoV, please click here.
