A Communication Tool for the Seven Hills Staff
Bump Up Day is Tomorrow:
Bump Up Day is a great way to:
1. Proactively build new relationships
2. Begin with the End in Mind to help students plan for summer learning opportunities to prevent summer slide
3. Synergize to help reduce transition anxiety.
Make sure each team member is ready and our newbies understand the schedule. If you have any questions, just ask Marisa Tindel OR a teammate who was here last year!
This day has awesome potential! Thanks for making it a success!
Here is the schedule and additional information:
This is such an exciting day for Seven Hills! Thank you Marisa Tindel and the Action Team for your work on this!
Bump Up Day does not impact lunch and recess schedules. It does not change the specials schedule times, but it does change WHO goes when...please read the details in the communication.
Awards Clarification:
Principal’s Award:
1 boy and 1 girl from each homeroom class with outstanding leadership/character, work ethic, achievement, etc. for the year. This is the student that could have easily been the Star Leader EACH grading period. They exemplify what it means to be a leader and our core beliefs. In order to be prepared for the awards, this form must be completed by Tuesday, May 28. https://forms.gle/ZC42szLyXuzkNcWL6
6th 6 Weeks Star Leader Award:
Same routine as grading periods 1-5. Please make sure you inform parents - invites should go home in student backpacks on TUESDAY! And, complete the Google Form to submit student names: https://goo.gl/forms/GK1m7D1V1gO0bqDg2
A Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance Medals:
I will read off of a list from e-school for the awards. You must come to Wilma’s office on Tuesday, May 28th to confirm your records match the e-school report. This is VERY important, as there is always a chance for error. By checking your records against the report, we reduce the chance that there could be disappointed students at awards assemblies.
Specials Awards:
2 boys and 2 girls are selected from the grade level by each of the three teachers, PE, Art and Music. The team works together to ensure students are not selected more than one time for a specials award.
Certificates:
Classroom teachers are responsible for printing any certificates. Club sponsors, etc. are responsible for printing for club participation. There are templates for some of these awards in the Google folder linked below. These are where the 1-3 awards received will largely come from. Templates available:
- Good Attendance
- A-B Honor Roll
- Certificate of Completion
- Outstanding Leadership/Legendary Leader
- Boy and Girl Academic Star (can be used for math, science, reading, social studies, writing Star award…you simply chance the content area listed)
For ALL of the certificates you download the certificate in the folder. When you select the award you are wanting, click on the blue “download” button. This will download the Publisher file for you to use. PLEASE read the awards CAREFULLY and make the necessary changes such as content area, date, student name, teacher name, grade level, etc. Nothing is more embarrassing than having mistakes on awards. Lecia has paper for awards…colored…parchment…etc….
You can create awards as well, I have the simple expectation that everyone in the grade level be the same…if one does an award…all do the award…

Classroom Furniture Update and Important Information:
I cannot stress this enough...the opportunity for furniture replacement is incredible! This is our chance to establish a standard accross the building. I understand that requireing you to remove personal items and removing some of the tables, shelves, etc. that you have grown acustomed to may cause a brief period of anxiety or frustration. However, I also know that when the new furniture arrives you will be so excited that you can hardly stand it. If you are worried about storage...you need to purge...if you haven't purged in a while...this is the time to do it. Next year, it will be an expectation that rooms be clutter free.
As we discussed in the staff meeting, each classroom teacher will be able to keep the following personal furniture items in their classrooms:
- One personal chair for circle time/author celebrations/etc.
- Shelving: All personal shelving that is left in the classroom for the 2019-2020 school year MUST be in good condition, sturdy, and look visually appealing. There will be a limit on the number of shelves that can be added to your classrooms. This limit will be based on the location of your classroom in the building, as different rooms have varying degrees of built in shelving. If you are in doubt, you MUST ask Kim Blackburn to come look for approval.
- Rugs: many of you have personal rugs for circle time, reading, etc. Rugs that are in good condition may remain. When in doubt...ask Kim Blackburn for approval.
- Flexible Seating: all flexible seating must be removed for the time being. When the new furniture arrives, we will assess the differnt seating types and determine whether or not there is a need for flexible seating.

MRA Final CALL....REALLY...WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Staff: Please complete the Leader in Me Measurable Results Survey by the end of the day TUESDAY:
- Current Response Rate: 53....we have a staff of 60...
4th and 5th Grade Student:
- Current Response Rate: 110 students...This is not reflective of the entire 4th and 5th grade
Please have your students complete the MRA for Leader in Me by the end of the day on TUESDAY! Please take this seriously. I encourage you to help your students understand what the questions are referring to instead of just letting them complete entirely on their own. Some of the questions or statements can use language that is confusing. This data is very important, as it will drive our goals and action teams for next year.

Parent:
- Current response rate: 115...Let's see if we can't get a few more parents to respond this week!!!!
Your feedback is important to us! We hope you will take a few minutes to complete a short survey about the Leader in Me at Seven Hills Elementary. The results from the survey will be used to set campus goals and plan future events and activities! To take the survey:
Campus and District Announcements and Updates:
- FROM TANYA: RTI progress reports will go home on Tuesday, May 28th.
- End of Year Checklists were placed in mailboxes last week. Please do not remove hall displays until you are given the "go ahead."
- Please let parents know that all medication must be picked up from the clinic and students need to check the lost and found!
Don't let spring fever set in...Duty assignments are made to ensure student safety at arrival and dismissal.
- Please make sure you are on time to your scheduled duty in the mornings. If you are going to be out, it is your responsibility to get coverage.
- Please remind students about Leader Expectations during dismissal. Staff must both model and hold students accountable to these expectations. These expectations are in place to ensure safe and efficient dismissal of all students.
- Save the Date for NISD 2019 - 2020 Professional Learning: The NISD PD calendar has been approved. I attached a document outlining the dates and other important PD information/requirements in the weekly update email. Please read carefully. We will discuss your PD plan for next year in summative conferences.
- Attendance Snapshot Time: Staff, it is imperative that attendance be completed DAILY at the 9:30 reporting time. Funding is connected to this reporting, and should the district/campus be audited, failure to report attendance at the snapshot time could result in loss of funding for all of the students in your classroom on each day that attendance was not completed at the reporting time. Please be advised that reporting attendance is connected to T-TESS discipline 4.
Save the Date:
Note:
- FYI - Tanya or Molly will be contacting any staff member on Tuesday who has not completed this task....All data entered in Student Achievement Google Doc by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 29. From the CIT:
Summer School We can still register students, so if you have any students that have not brought in forms, please make a phone call home to encourage this bonus summer learning for your students. I will be happy to call as well! The DRA window closes this Wednesday May 29th for 3rd-5th grade.
From the Librarian:
Here is a link to summer reading suggestions, feel free to share it with parents.

Kim is working on a packet of summer activities for students and this will be included. We will also have information on Rhome, Newark and Haslet public library summer reading programs. I”m also posting this information on my Seven Hills Library Fb page.
If you do not follow that page, please do. https://www.facebook.com/SevenHillsStarsRead/
Kim, PTA and me are planning a Seven Hills SUmmer Reading program during June. Tentatively, our summer reading program will take place every Wednesday in June from 11:15 - 12:15 in the library. We hope that each teacher will sign up to attend at least 1x during that month.
Please continue to search your classroom for library books and continue to hound students to get their books turned in. As of Friday there were over 650 books still checked out. The average cost of a library book is $15-$20
