The Japanese tsunami hit on the 11th of march 2011. The casualties numbered to almost 16,000 deaths and almost 6,000 badly injured. The tsunami - the result of a 9.0 earthquake - reached up to 40 meters in height

The National Police Agency confirmed 15,891 deaths, 6,152 injured and a reported 2,584 people missing.
