Thank you, Parents!
While we know we still have work to do, we were excited to see many positive comments about the family-like atmosphere, caring and high-quality teachers, improved communication, and the various activities offered at Yarbrough.
We will take your suggestions to heart and pass along the things like traffic issues, school start times, and not having a cafeteria to our central office.
Yarbrough teachers and students also took a survey. The two areas that teachers were the most thankful for were parental support and support from administration and other teachers. The students' top two positive comments were related to caring teachers and Club Days, while the most common complaint was that recess is too short.
We thank you so much for your support!

Please make an appointment with your child’s physician or Lee County Health Department prior to the 2017-2018 school year.
Please pick up any medications your student has at school by Friday, May 26th.

The Counseling Connection with Mrs. Walsh
Summer is on the way. Our school year is drawing to a close. Please encourage your students to finish their year to the best of their abilities. As the last day approaches, take a few minutes to reflect with your child on their year. Challenge them to recall their favorite memories, as well as, the things they wish to change for next school year. Goal setting is important as it helps to raise self-esteem. Our last lessons in Guidance will focus on summer safety and transitioning into the next school year, especially for our 5th graders, as they will attend Drake in the fall.
Please talk with your child about safety issues:
*Know where your child is at all times and when he or she is returning home.
*Know who your child’s friends are and where they live.
*Never leave a small child alone at home or in a car.
*Teach your child that bad people don’t necessarily look mean.
*Discuss with your child how to identify safe adults who can help them when trouble approaches.
* Role-play difficult situations with your child.
*Decide on a secret code word to use during emergency situations.
* Make sure your child knows how to contact you in case of an emergency.
If Home Alone, Your Child Should:
*Know how to reach you.
*Know how and when to call 911.
*Keep the door locked at all times.
*Never let anyone inside, even if they know the person, if you didn’t give permission in advance.
*Never tell callers their name, number, or address or that they are home alone.
Online Safety Reminders for Students
*Never give out personal information.
*Tell your parents if you find something that makes you uncomfortable.
*Never agree to get together with someone you “meet “on line without parent permission.
*Talk with parents before posting pictures of you or others online.
*Do not respond to mean messages, instead tell parents.
*Never give out your password.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful summer.
Quote of the Month:
“Take the word CAN’T out of your vocabulary. Replace it with the word TRY.
If you try, you have the courage of taking a risk.
The word can’t stops you from reaching your dream.
To try gives you a sense of doing your best.” ---By Donna B. Forres

Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw
Key Phrase: Balance Feels Best
What this habit looks like in action: I take care of my body by eating right, exercising and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I find meaningful ways to help others.
Manner Focus: Show gratitude.
