Letter from Ms. Smith
Hello Parents and Families!
Week one is in the books. It was a great week filled with lots of laughter and learning. Our students have not really jumped into heavy instruction this week because we are working on establishing routines. This means that we are learning about how things are done at Hembree Springs.
This year our theme is #TogetherWeSoar based on the book All Are Welcome! Our students have been reading the book and talking about our diverse community. We have shared different things about ourselves as we are learning new teachers and classmates. We have also added some new opportunities for students to be responsible. This year students may volunteer to be a cafe helper. That means that students can wipe down the table (towel and water, no soap - custodians sanitize tables to ensure cleanliness) and sweep around the table in the cafe. We are promoting a sense of responsibility and ownership of our shared spaces. Students have been excited to take on these new roles. Our cafe has never looked better.
Lastly, I want to send a special shoutout to our parents! You rolled with the first day of long lines, rain at carpool, and waiting much longer than anticipated at the bus stops. You made sure to sign paperwork and send in the extra change of clothes. You fought back tears when you dropped off your 4-5 year old at the big school for the first time. (It is also okay if you couldn't hold those tears in too.) You carried your child to bed after they fell asleep on the couch at the end of day 3. You got up extra early today because you needed that time to get the coffee in before you started morning routine. I know that this week has brought different experiences for every student, parent, and family. You pushed through and gave a smile and encouraging words no matter what you had going on inside. You sent love and hugs at the bus stop or carpool each day. You greeted your child(ren) with wonder by asking them all about their day. The excitement and success of this week was just as much your doing as the work the teachers and staff. So...THANK YOU! You are truly amazing!
I am grateful to serve this community, your family, and your child!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

iReady Diagnostic
Our students are taking their first iReady diagnostics next week. We’re excited for the chance to show what we know and to get good information that will help allow our teachers to plan personalized instruction. Most students will begin at 8:00 on Tuesday for the reading diagnostic, and at 8:00 on Thursday for the math diagnostic. There is nothing to prepare for; a good night’s sleep, a good breakfast, and on time arrival to school are all that is needed. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions, and visit
https://i-readycentral.com/familycenter/ for further information.
Transportation Info
Parents, if your child rides the bus home in the afternoon, please do not remove the bus tag (Pink Pig, Purple Dinosaur, etc.) from their backpack. We use these to do quick checks when loading buses at dismissal. This ensures that students are boarding the correct bus. Thank you!!
