ID Badges & Lanyards Are Here!

Thank you parents and students for making sure that our Bobcats wear lanyards everyday. All Bobcats are expected to wear their ID badge and lanyard around their necks and clearly visible for everyone to see. When students take them off at the end of the day, encourage students to keep their ID/lanyard in the side pocket of their computer bag. This will ensure that every Bobcat is ready for the school day.

Remember the Buffett High Five!

Clubs Kick Off

Each Friday, students have the opportunity to learn through enrichment clubs. Clubs will be hosted during Bobcat Den and students will explore four clubs throughout the school year.

Bobcat Store Officially Open

The Bobcat Store officially opened on Tuesday, September 4th. The store will be open daily during Bobcat Den (2:40 - 3:05). Grade levels will visit the store on assigned days to spend their Bobcat Bucks! For more information on what items are available and pricing, click here.

Fall MAP Testing

MAP testing is off and running in science classrooms this week. Testing will continue in math next week and reading the following week.

You can help us support your student in the following ways:
  • Please be aware of these dates when making appointments that require your child to miss school.
  • CHARGE your child's device nightly. They use it to take the test.
  • Help your child get plenty of sleep.

Fall MAP scores will be available to you at Fall Student Led Conferences.

New Faces at Buffett!

Check out this section to see the newest faces around Buffett. For the next several weeks, we will introduce you to new Buffett staff members!

Technology Tip

There are two things that can be done on a nightly basis that will help both your child's experience with their laptop and a teacher's ability to run an efficient class when using technology.
  1. Make sure your child charges their device fully every single night.
  2. Have your child shut down their device nightly. A fresh start up at school will do wonders for the laptop running smoothly at school.

Attention all Bobcat Readers!

All 6th-8th grade Buffett students are invited to join Book Blasters, an after school club for students who enjoy reading and talking about books with other students. Book Blasters is sponsored by the OPS Office of Talented and Gifted, and it includes a competition in February against the other OPS Middle Schools. The graphic below shows the 10 books on the 18-19 Book Blaster list.

Our opening meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 13th, 3:15-4:15 PM in Portable 6 (Mrs. Tunning’s portable). If students are bus riders and need a late bus to stay after school, they should sign up in the office before school. Sponsors for Book Blaster are Ms. Packard-Kruse (jana.packard-kruce@ops.org) and Mrs. Tunning (amy.tunning@ops.org). Contact these teachers with any questions. We are excited to have another successful year with our Bobcat readers!

Required Physicals for 7th & 8th Graders

Every 7th grade student is required to have a complete physical dated after March 1, 2018. The state of Nebraska also requires every student to have the Tdap (tetanus and whooping cough) vaccine. This physical can also be used as an athletic physical if your student wants to participate in athletics. This needs to be on file prior to your student attending practice/tryouts.

Every 8th grade student wanting to participate in athletics for the 2018-2019 school year needs to have current physical dated after May 1, 2018. This needs to be on file prior to your student attending practice or tryouts.

Youth Frontiers Retreats

Seventh grade students participated in "Courage" retreats last week. The purpose of the Courage retreat is to inspire students to follow their hearts instead of the crowd, use courage and make responsible decisions despite their fears.
